Volunteer Opportunities
Join the PHight
It takes a small army to put on this event, and could not be accomplished without the support of our volunteers. Not only do we need volunteers the day of the race, but also can use help in the months and weeks leading up to the race. Contact Amy Lovercamp, Race Director to discuss opportunities and the ways in which you would like to be involved. In past years we have completed documentation for students volunteering their time to satisfy volunteer hours for school and or work credits and welcome those opportunities again this year.
There are many ways to get involved in the 2019 Let Us Be Your Lungs 5k, a few of which are listed below.
Pre-race day assistance -
- Stuffing envelopes
- Recruiting sponsors and donations.
- Recruiting participants via email, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
- Distributing and hanging flyers.
- Brainstorming for making the event an AMAZING day for all and assist with bringing those ideas to fruition!
Race day assistance -
- Setting up tables for vendors and registration
- Placing signage along the race route
- Distribution of event bags
- Race route drink station
- Food and Beverage Court
- First aid station
- Registration Table
- Directing Traffic
- Post race Clean-up
Volunteers will all do a variety of tasks throughout the day but if there is an area you are most interested in let us know and we'll do our best to get you placed. If you are interested in assisting with any of the above or have another way of contributing, please send us an email at letusbeyourlungs@gmail.com
Volunteer Requirements:
• Must be 16 years of age or older
• Must be able to be on time and stay for the entire duration of the shift
• Must be able to move around as needed throughout the entire shift
As a very small token of our appreciation for helping to make this an amazing event, Volunteers will have the opportunity to partake in the days festivities and those fulfilling their scheduled assignment will receive a complimentary event shirt.

Team Registration
Create a team or join a team that's already been created for you!
Run Signup, will allow you to register as an individual, a team, or as a virtual participant (individual or team). Each person or team registering will have the opportunity to create a fundraising page that can be customized to add a team name, photo, message and fundraising goals. There will be a direct link on your fundraising page that will allow you to share your page with family, friends, co-workers, and business associates. Registration as well as additional information regarding the event can be found on this site. If you are unable to attend the 5k please consider being a virtual participant or team!
Inspired by Team PHenomenal Hope’s, Let Me Be Your Lungs Program, which partners endurance athletes with PH patients, we have created a similar program Let Us Be Your Lungs, to connect a volunteer PH patient with a volunteer 5k participant or team. The patient would cheer on their Let Us Be Your Lungs participant and as a team you will raise awareness by spreading the word about PH, encourage the attendance of our event, share your fundraising page and fundraise together. The registration platform for these teams will be the same as mentioned above. Additionally, each Let Us Be Your Lungs team will have an opportunity to share their experience and personal story at the 5k and on our website (coming soon!), as well as have a team poster along the race route. This is a project in progress; additional details will be posted on our website as they become available. If you are a patient or participant and would like to get involved in this program, please send us an email at letusbeyourlungs@gmail.com .

Guests of Honor and Speakers -
It is our honor to introduce to you our Guests of Honor and Speakers -
A very special thank you to Louise Pennewell, and daughter Lucy, for stepping in last minute to be our guest speakers for our event this Saturday, October 19. Michael and Miranda Parker are unable to attend due to a few set backs in Michael's lung transplant recovery. Please join me in keeping Michael and Miranda in your thoughts and prayers as they PHight back. As a 20 year PHighter, Louise will share with us her journey through PH and daughter Lucy, will speak on behalf of her fellow caregivers.
Michael and Miranda Parker - In July, 2018, Michael received a lung transplant to aid in his PHight against Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. His family started a Facebook page, PHight like Michael to journal his lung transplant journey; a heartwarming story with a happy ending. Their journey is not only heartwarming but a true inspiration for all our families PHighting PH. Please join us for the day and listen to Michael and Miranda share their journey through PH.
Suzannah Anderson - Dedication of, Olivia's Run to PHight PH, Kid's 1/2 Mile Fun Run, in memory of her daughter, Olivia Lynn Anderson.

Midwest Transplant Institute will be on sight for donor registration.
Event Beneficiary
Team PHenomenal Hope -
We are honored to have Team PHenomenal Hope as our event beneficiary. Team PHenomenal Hope is an official charity nonprofit 501(c)3 and as a charity, they seek to raise awareness of Pulmonary Hypertension, raise funds to aid researchers to find improved treatments or a cure for those who suffer from PH, as well as programming that focuses on providing patient services. The proceeds from our event will be donated to their PHenomenal Impact Fund for Global PH Research. Their Let Me Be Your Lungs program was our inspiration for the branding of our events as well teaming patients and participants together to bring awareness of PH and raise essential funds needed to aid PH researchers. You too will find their program heartwarming as you read about the athlete and the patient they race for. The Unmet Needs Patient Impact Fund aids patients with $500 micro burst grants to assist with non-medical needs such as home improvements and expenses getting to medical appointments. Visit their website and read patient stories how these grants have helped patients after natural disasters and just everyday living.
A very special thank you to Team PHenomenal Hope for all they do for our PH community, they truly make a difference in the lives of our patients. We encourage you to visit their website to learn more about their organization and the admirable work they do to better the lives of those living with PH.
