Description
The Flathead Lake Open Water Swimmers hosting a challenging and fun open water swimming extravaganza the weekend of August 5th, 2023. This fun and challenging event will be held in our back yard in Queens Bay on flathead lake, just north of Polson, MT. We will be offering 4 different swim distances, two of which circumnavigate the island around Kings Point, leading swimmers underneath a cool byway and around the island. The options for swims distances include a 1 mile, 5k, 10k and a 500-yard fun swim. Or for the truly ambitious, if there is interest, you can complete the trifecta for a solid 16.5 K out on the water. If you have interest in the trifecta sign up for the 10K and contact me, and we will get you set up for the whole thing.
This being our inaugural event and wanting to gauge both the interest and workload for potential future events, we will be capping the swimmers this year at 30 for all swims other than the 500 yard fun swim for charity. Some accommodations will be made for people who ask very nicely. :)
The shorter swim if there ends up being interest, will be held at the conclusion of the longer swims to ensure full attention to potentially less experienced swimmers. This is a great opportunity to get out on the lake and meet some new friends who also love to swim!
all proceeds are going to covering Insurance costs for the event. IF there's any leftover, it'll go to the party afterwards!
The FLOWS swimmers are a group of open water and pool swimmers of all abilities who pride ourselves on our adventurous and easy-going nature and not taking ourselves too seriously. We do however take the safety of all swimmers on all open water swims we are involved in very seriously and we ask that you come prepared and trained for unpredictable conditions in the water. IF you are not used to swimming in all sorts of conditions, please practice. Queens Bay is quite protected from elements such as excessive wind and boat traffic. But this is Flathead Lake, and the lake makes the rules, and we are just lucky enough to get to play by them. We will have volunteers out on Kayak and Pontoon to make sure everything goes smoothly.
Open water swimming doesn’t get any better anywhere on the planet than Montana in August! Please come Join us for a summer event to remember!
The Race location for the event will be at Lake County's Dixon Park, which is a public community park with public dock and a Pavilion that we have reserved for the day.
Dixon Park is just North of Wolf Point Tribal Park. The closest Ping I can get for an address is 31169, Wolf Point Way, Polson, MT. Further Directions to the Park will be forthcoming. If you have any further questions, I'd be happy to answer them, reach out by email to universalgilmartin@gmail.com
Happy swimming!
