Let's start by clarifying this is NOT a Virtual Event...it's FOR REAL and will continually get more real for everyone.  Real courses throughout the Triangle, real event planning by professional organizers, real local partners, real deals and merchandise...real connections within our running community again!

The summer run challenge!

The Short Story:  Every week we announce a new Featured Course, a specific run location in the Triangle with all the details you need know about it...and sometime during that week - you go and run that course on your own schedule.  Each Course has a signature element that is your "Selfie" proof of getting out there, once you submit it into our social platform - that week's Partner Deals are shared with you.  Same scenario every week, all summer long...new courses and partners deals every week.  All the miles you run, hike, walk, anywhere - anytime counts towards your 173 mile challenge...just keep logging them!

CIRCLES AROUND the TRIANGLE

This is just the beginning - the launching point and foundation for more upcoming activities organized by Sheltered Events to gradually and safely bring us back outdoors.  Back outdoors with those we have been sheltering with, but also leveraging Sheltered Event's leadership of organizing socially responsible events - together again.   Consider Circles Around the Triangle as the Basecamp for many adventures over the summer, within your own circles, but together around the Triangle as one. 

THE MATH 

Why, How 173 miles, we defined our circle around the triangle to have a 27.5 radius - large enough to include all our friends from Hillsborough to Clayton.  Here's the math: 27.5 x 2 x π = 172.7  (That's right we finally found a purpose for using 3.14 as adults, and yes we round up to 173).  The reason we needed to define a real geographic circle is the same reason why this is NOT a Virtual Event = there will be Real Courses featured throughout the Challenge to encourage us to explore and run/walk elsewhere.   

THE CHALLENGE

Simple - just be a part of it, the miles will be the fun part...many of us are already part of run clubs, training programs and virtual events - yo can use those miles towards our circles too.  We will provide the communications, encouragement, rewards and tracking tools to make this your fully stocked Basecamp.  Achieving 1 loop or 10 loops over the summer will be up to you, but every loop will be rewarded.  All your miles count, run/walk/hike - anywhere/anytime - just remember to log them in our Basecamp tracking tool - we will get you setup with that during your onboarding!

THE FEATURED COURSES

We all have favorite things, but our goal will be to challenge you to move around and find new favorite things.  Our featured courses will highlight signature spots around the triangle to include in your miles to get closer to achieving your Basecamp Rewards (think Scrabble - double word score!) and there might even be some scavenger hunt opportunities on these courses too! And of course - Detailed Previews and Location will be shared.  Specific courses + specific time periods = New Experiences 

THE BASECAMP REWARDS

We are more than swag-minded (but there is plenty of that too)...we are working within the triangle to help re-connect us with our local businesses to create win-win offers/deals.  As runners we love apparel but maybe even more - food and beverage (even if it's curbside pickup style for now)...that's what we are talking about, just need to join us to get in on it.  173 miles might seem a long way, but Basecamp Rewards will be available along the way to help you get there, maybe even farther than 1 loop.  This is also the payback opportunity - the exclusive offers/deals will definitely yield an ROI on your registration fees. While you are out there running your circles - we will be doing our circles with engaging partners.

THE BASECAMP OPERATIONS CENTER (BOC)

This is kinda back office stuff, but a key aspect to making our challenge - for REAL.  We will be leveraging the following technology partners:

• RunSignUp suite of tools for registration, miles tracking and dashboard.  
• Slack Channels to organize conversations and sharing experiences (Instructions, Q&A, Course Details, Messages and Photos etc.)
• Zoom for real communications on Circles Around the Triangle, with challenge updates, Basecamp Reward Ceremonies, and Announcements of new Sheltered Events.
