Description
Join Together We Stand NC and Fleet Feet Durham in commemorating the death of Ahmaud Arbery, a Black man who was murdered while out on a run in Brunswick, GA on February 23rd, 2020. This virtual run will be held to honor his memory and encourage our participants and greater community to speak about the senseless violence against Black communities in America.
Registration is free and we are encouraging you to make a donation or purchase a long sleeve shirt (through Monday, January 25th) to support Together We Stand NC. Fleet Feet Durham is committing to a $2.23 donation to Together We Stand NC for the first 100 participants who submit their miles in RunSignUp.
Together We Stand NC has decided to funnel the donations from the event, t-shirt sales, and the Fleet Feet donation to the People's Alliance in Durham, NC. The vision of the People’s Alliance is a just, equitable and inclusive community where all people can thrive. This will be possible when everyone:
- Works to dismantle structural racism and other forms of oppression, including sexism, Islamophobia, xenophobia; anti-semitism and homophobia;
- Supports and advocates for the rights of LGBTQ people;
- Protects and advocates for the rights of children, the elderly, and people with disabilities;
- Benefits from effective public education;
- Votes, stays informed and advocates for the policies we want our elected officials to implement.
For more information about the People’s Alliance of Durham, visit www.durhampa.org. We are so grateful for your support!
When you register you are committing to running or walking 2.23 miles on February 23rd and we encourage you to share your run/walk with your friends and family to engage in a conversation about race. Share on social media tagging @togetherwestandnc, @fleetfeetcarrboro_durham, and using the hashtag #IRunWithMaud.
Check out Together We Stand NC for a strength workout in Ahmaud's honor as well!
