Gavin's Groupies Loping for Lungs 5K

FOR THOSE WHO SIGNED UP FOR IN PERSON SEPTEMBER 23RD: we will be sending out your race packets to you in the next few days. We would love to see your photos of your own personal 5K and you can send us your results and we can add them! You don't have to re-sign up. 

The goal of this race is to raise funds for The Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Foundation Carolinas Chapter and to support Gavin Darrow, 13,  who is living with Cystic Fibrosis. He will be turning 13 soon and is  involved in Cross Country! CF research has led to treatments that have allowed him to live like a typical teenager! Help support him and others living with CF by using your legs to cure the lungs!

What is CF?

Cystic fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs.

There are close to 40,000 children and adults living with cystic fibrosis in the United States and CF can affect people of every racial and ethnic group.

In people with CF, mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene cause the CFTR protein to become dysfunctional. When the protein is not working correctly, it’s unable to help move chloride, a key component of salt, to the cell surface. Without the chloride to attract water to the cell surface, the mucus in various organs becomes thick and sticky.  The mucus will then clog the airways and traps germs, like bacteria, leading to infections, inflammation, respiratory failure, and other complications. 

**All proceeds will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Central/Eastern Carolinas Chapters.

Entry fee at packet pick up and race day for the 5k is  $35 and for the Fun Run its $30

Overall Awards will be given to the first female and male winners plus the overall masters.

Age group awards will be handed out to the following age groups:

8 and under, 9-11, 12-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 and over.
