The Outer Banks 100K /100 Mile Virtual Challenges

 

Presented by the Outer Banks Running Club, benefiting the Beach Food Pantry.
Take on our virtual running challenge and run our beach from Corolla to Rodanthe to Hatteras!
Run on your own and post your mileage, time, and personal notes on our results page, (see instructions below), to track your progress. Our leader board results page immediately updates so you can see every participant's progress, (you have until August 14, 2020 to post your results).
 
WHAT: Virtual Challenge - You have up to 30 days to complete the 100K (62.1 miles) or 100 Mile challenge.
WHEN: Our Virtual Challenge starts July 11, 2020 and ends August 11, 2020, you can register until August 8, 2020.
FEE: $18.00 which includes a $5 donation to the Outer Banks Beach Food Pantry. OBRC members receive a $5.00 discount.
WHAT YOU GET: All registrants will receive two wrist sweatbands with our club logo embroidered on it.

 

We will provide course details for your virtual journey along the outer banks with periodic updates.
 
Beneficiary:  A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Beach Food Pantry, a local non-profit organization dedicated to providing free groceries to individuals and families in our community who have been affected by a temporary crisis or emergency. COURSE GUIDE:

Start at Heritage Park – Whalehead Club in Currituck County

Mile 1.4  - Go past the wild horse grates to where Rt 12 becomes sand and head back South

Mile 4.5 -  Bonito Public Beach and Bath House

Mile 9.75 – Currituck Visitor Center

Mile 11 – Pine Island Audubon Sanctuary

Mile 13.5 – Duck Sign and Entering Dare County

Mile 18.5 -  Duck Boardwalk (stay on Duck Road)

Mile 20  - Hillcrest Beach Access/Southern Shores

Mile 23.5 – Turn onto Beach Road at Handee Hugos/ Kitty Hawk Pier (now in Kitty Hawk)

Marathon Mark – Kitty Hawk RV Park (near Kitty Hawk Road Beach Access)

Mile 28 – Hayman’s Beach Access

Mile 30 –  MP 8.5 - Wright Memorial to your right (now in Kill Devil Hills)

50k mark – Baum Street

Mile 34 – Jockey’s Ridge (East Coast's Largest Sand dune parallel to Beach Road)

Mile 36.5 – Nags Head Town Offices

Mile 38.5 – Jennette’s Pier and veer onto Old Oregon Inlet Road

Mile 43.5 – Turn left onto Cape Hatteras Park Road/Route 12 South

Mile 45 – Bodie Island Lighthouse off to your right (keep straight on Rt 12)

Mile 48 -  Cross Basnight Bridge (2.6 miles)

Mile 53- Enter Pea Island  (Visitor Center on Right)

Mile 62 – Chicamacomino Lifesaving Station / Rodanthe, Waves and Salvo

Mile 62.1 – Congratulations – 100K FINISH

Mile 72-  Enter Village of Avon

Mile 85.7 – Turn left into Cape Hatteras Lighthouse; Run around the parking lot and back out to Route 12 , Take a left headng South

Mile 89- Village of Buxton

Mile 95- Village of Frisco

Mile 98-  Enter Village of Hatteras

Mile 100 -  Graveyard of the Atlantic – 100 MILE FINISH

DAILY GUIDANCE: Go at your own pace, walking or running, but here is a suggested itinerary.  You can expect posts and videos to learn more about the points of interest on the route based on the below itinerary.

Week One -  July 11 - 17   Corolla to Beach Road     23.5 miles  ( 23.5 Cumulative)

Week Two – July 18  - 24    Beach Road to Basnight Bridge     24. 5 miles  (48 Cumulative)

Week Three – July 25 - 31  Basnight Bridge to Rodanthe   14.1 miles   (62.1/100k Cumulative)

Week Four – August 1 - 7   Rodanthe to Hatteras Lighthouse to Buxton   26.9 miles  (89 Cumulative)

Final Push-  August 8 - 11  Buxton to Finish  11 miles   (100 Cumulative)

Week One – July 11 - 17   Corolla to Dare County Sign  13.5 miles   (13.5 Cumulative)

Week Two – July 18 - 24 -  Dare County Sign to Marathon Mark on Beach Road  12.7 miles   (26.2 Cumulative)

Week Three – July 25  - 31 – Marathon to Jennette’s Pier   12.3 miles    (38.5 Cumulative)

Week Four – August 1 - 7 – Jennette’s Pier, Across Basnight Bridge   11.5 miles   ( 50 Cumulative)

Final Push – August 8 - 11  - Basnight Bridge to Rodanthe   12.1 miles   (62.1 Cumulative)
