NORTH CAROLINA AQUARIUMS
RUN FOR THE PLANET
SEPT. 12-20, 2020
VIRTUAL 1K - 5K - 10K - 13.1K
ITS MORE THAN A RACE.
IT'S MOVEMENT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
FOR YOU, FOR THE NORTH CAROLINA AQUARIUMS AND FOR THE PLANET.

THINGS ARE DIFFERENT THIS YEAR.
The North Carolina Aquariums have been closed to the public for more than five months.
But we won't let that stop us. We're growing an idea, making it virtual and taking it global.

MULTIPLE DISTANCES. NEW FUN ELEMENTS.
OPEN TO ANYONE, ANYWHERE, WITH THE EASE OF AN APP.

What hasn't changed? Our reason for being.
The 2020 Run for the Planet welcomes racers of all skill levels with a fun,
no-pressure atmosphere to do something healthy for themselves and for the planet.
Proceeds from this event will support the conservation and sustainability efforts of the three North Carolina Aquariums and Jennette’s Pier.

HERE'S WHAT'S DIFFERENT THIS YEAR:
1. Run Anywhere.
Since Run for the Planet is virtual you can run anywhere!  Recruit your friends and family to join the fun no matter where they live.  Compete for the largest team challenge.  Winners of the largest team challenge will win free admission to any of the NC Aquariums.

2. Run Anytime.
Complete the Run for the Planet anytime between September 12 - September 20.

3. Compete with friends and family far and wide AND have crowd support and cheers from all over.
Run for the Planet uses the RaceJoy App to provide you the most advanced race day experience available today! By tapping into the power of your smartphone, RaceJoy delivers real-time performance information, live leader boards, turn-by-turn instructions, and the ability for family and friends to show their support from around the world!

4. Earn Great Awards.
And like all races, this year’s event will have awards...but these awards will be for folks who are racing to make a difference for our planet.  As part of this year’s event, we will be sending you a list of ideas that will help us race for a better planet.  Your registration will give you access to our private Facebook group.  Join the group and post pictures of how you (and your friends and family) are running/walking/skipping for a better planet

Be a Steward of our Planet

Here are just a few ideas of actions you can take to be a Good Steward of our Planet.  Give these a try during Run for the Planet (September 12-20).  Join our Facebook Group and post pictures of how you are MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR YOU, FOR THE NORTH CAROLINA AQUARIUMS AND FOR THE PLANET.

Green Tips:

Skip the straw. Each year, people in the US use enough straws to wrap around the earth 2.5 times. Straws are easily carried by the wind leading them to litter our beaches, oceans and waterways. Straws are one of the top 5 items found during beach sweeps in the US.

Turn it off. Artificial lighting accounts for 44 percent of electricity use in office buildings. Make it a habit to turn off the lights when you're leaving any room for 15 minutes or more. Same goes for electronics; switch off power strips and unplug electrical devices when you're not using them.

Dial it down. Moving your thermostat down just two degrees in winter and up two degrees in summer could save about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide per year.
