Hair of the Dog Half Marathon, Relay, 5K, & 1 Mile Fun Run

Join us for the 1st Annual Hair of the Dog, a multi-distance festive event on November 18th!  Athletes can choose from a half-marathon distance (13.1 miles), a 6.55 mile distance as part of a two-person half marathon relay team, a 5K (3.1 mile) option, and a 1 Mile distance.  Bring your furry family members along for the run/walk as well.

Race events and each race distance will begin at the Catawba Meadows Park Festival Area.  Additional information about relay team corral location will be sent to individuals who register in that category.  There will be multiple water and fueling stations along the half marathon course and one water station along the 5K course. 

Race Course:

In order to keep athletes as safe as possible, and avoid crossing over an open road/park access, we created a course that uses the Catawba River Greenway.  For a visual and audio explanation of the race course for the half marathon route, go to http://youtu.be/Q_0zXkRX91M?hd=1.

Costs:

Half Marathon (Individual): $50

Half Marathon (Relay): $30 per team member

5K: $25

1 Mile Fun Run/Walk: $15

** High school students, check with your team coaches and PE teachers for a discount code for the Half Marathon and 5K options!

Register by October 31st to avoid the $5 price increase on all event categories.  Online registration will close at 11:59p.m. on November 14th.

Race Swag & Perks:

Half Marathon and Half Marathon Relay finishers receive a beautiful Finisher's Medal and race logo item (check back periodically for details and pictures as details are finalized!).  All 5K finishers receive a race logo item, and 1 Mile finishers receive a finisher's ribbon (race logo items will be available for purchase on event day). 

Athletes and their families will be able to enjoy live music throughout the morning.  Bring a lawn chair or blanket and claim your patch of grass for the show!  Post-race food will also be available to athletes - fruit, water, and carbs as well as pizza (gluten free, vegetarian, and meaty options).  Free pizza will be available to athletes who show their race bib to volunteers at the appropriate station.

Awards & Recognition

Overall Male and Female 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be awarded in the Half Marathon - Individual and 5K.  Overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams will be awarded in the Half Marathon Relay.  1st through 3rd place recognition will be given in age groups as outlined below for the 5K:

10 years and younger                            40-49 years old

11-19 years old                                      50-59 years old

20-29 years old                                      60-69 years old

30-39 years old                                     70+ years old

Packet Pick-Up and On-site Registration

Packet pick-up will take place on November 17th; more details to come.  Registered athletes will receive an email in advance of the race with all specifics and details. 

On-site registration will be available for the Half Marathon - Individual, 5K, and 1 Mile events only.  No on-site registration for Half Marathon Relay teams.  There is a price increase on all distances that applies on race day at on-site registration.  On-site registration will be open from 7-8am only.

Race Beneficiary

Proceeds from the events will go towards the work of A Better Life Animal Rescue (ABLAR).
