Union Mills Wilderness 5K, 10K and Virtual Run (Formerly Box Creek Event)
10 am kick off on 2/24/2024- Union Mills, NC
Union Mills Learning Center is presenting the 5th annual Union Mills Wilderness 5K, 10K and Virtual Run on Saturday, February 24, 2024 (Formerly Box Creek Event -- just a name change). The 10K boasts spectacular scenery, taking runners alongside the Second Broad River, the CSX Railroad, and around the base of Rocky Face Mountain and the area now known as Box Creek Wilderness. 5K participants can walk or run the route that will begin at Union Mills Learning Center. Both races are scheduled to start at 10am.
* Virtual Events offered in the 5k and 10k distance. Finisher medal along with T shirt and goodie bag will be mailed out. No T-shirt guaranteed to be received before the race if not registered by the 18th . Runners must submit their time under their profile. You will have from Saturday, Feb. 24th through Monday, Feb. 26th to submit your times under your profile for the virtual event(s). No points or placements will be designated.
*Both the 5k and 10k will be in the ROC series points race for 2024. 1 additional point earned for the 10k (make note)!!
* WE WILL HAVE RACE DAY SIGN UPS RACE MORNING!
* Pre Made race goodie bags will be distributed race morning at packet pick up. The bag will include your disposable timing chip (wear on your chest), Race T-shirt, and a few small sponsored items.
*Refreshments will be prepackaged and self served at both the finish-line area in the auditorium and on the course.
* An awards ceremony will be held in the facility auditorium. A face book Live video will take place. Awards will be mailed if anyone leaves before the ceremony. Find your results under RacingToes.com
T shirt dead line Feb 19th. Due to demand and the ability to receive shipments from the vendor in a timely manner, shirt colors may vary.

1-12; 13-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70 & over.

5k Course Map
Like last year, participants will begin in front of the main building near the gazebo, follow the arrows around the left side of the building, and go around the apartments and gymnasium buildings . The trail will lead participants to Hudlow Road, where they will turn right and follow Hudlow until they reach Box Creek Road on the left. Runners will turn on this compacted gravel road until they reach the marked 5K turnaround point and run the trail in reverse - finishing at the beginning of the course.
10k Course Map
10k Course Map: Combination pavement and compact gravel.
Like last year, participants will begin on the field behind the school near the gazebo, follow the woodline all the way around the ballfield, up the hill towards the school and down the compacted gravel drive behind the apartment buildings on campus. The trail will lead participants to Hudlow Road, where they will turn right and follow Hudlow until they reach Box Creek Road on the left. Runners will run the full length of Box Creek Road, turning around just past the bridge near Hwy. 221. Participants will then run the trail in reverse - finishing at the beginning of the course.
