THE LITTLE BLACK DRESS MOVEMENT HAS GONE VIRTUAL!
The Junior League of Moore County is dedicated to improving the lives of youth in our community who are experiencing the negative effects of poverty. We partner with local organizations that have a shared vision of supporting children and teens facing food insecurity, delinquency, are in the foster care system and/or potential targets of human trafficking. In the time of COVID, our annual fundraiser for youth programs, the Little Black Dress Run, is changing as we are going virtual!
JLMC challenges you to join our Little Black Dress MOVEment and move every day for the month of September! Log your minutes of MOVEment on the digital calendar provided, and challenge your friends and family to move with you. While not required, we invite you to do your MOVEment in a little black dress, along with our JLMC members, and share your experience on social media!
Each participant will receive a virtual digital goody bag for use at some of our favorite retailers and websites.

What is the Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI)?
LBDI is a fundraising campaign created by The Junior League to raise awareness around poverty and the restrictions poverty places on choices, opportunities, and access to resources. Traditionally, league members wear one black dress for five consecutive days, in an effort to spark conversations and awareness about poverty and related issues. In 2019, the Junior League of Moore County put our own spin on the LBDI by turning the event into a fun run. This year, and in the time of COVID, LBDI has become a virtual MOVEment...in a little black dress!
Why is this initiative important here?
Approximately 20% of children in Moore County live in homes with an income below the poverty level. Research indicates children living in poverty are at increased risk of experiencing inadequate nutrition, poor health, and developing behavioral issues (ex. truancy, defiance of authority, and engaging in risky behavior). Long term effects into adulthood include, but are not limited to, chronic disease, depression, anxiety, and shortened life expectancy.
