This community event attracts over 300 cyclists who help to support Concord Hospital Payson Center for Cancer Care. Monies raised are used to provide our most vulnerable patients with a nurse navigator. The nurse navigator is a staff member, a "professional family member", dedicated to helping cancer patients find the medical, community, and financial support they need quickly, which in turn, helps to calm the patient’s anxieties related to their treatment.
Pedaling for Payson has raised over a million dollars so far in support of the Gene Gillis Fund, specifically supporting patients in need at Concord Hospital Payson Center for Cancer Care. The Fund covers out-of-pocket expenses such as gift cards for gas, groceries, nutritional supplements and other items to improve quality of life for patients dealing with cancer. In 2017 the Pedaling for Payson Committee created the Pedaling for HOPE Fund to go a step further and provide additional funds raised from this event to the Payson Center's HOPE Resource Center for programs including support groups, therapeutic massage, Reiki and more.
