Description

Join Dr. Kyle McIntyre of Roots Integrative Therapies and Coach Anne Torrez of Tri It Your Way Coaching for an in depth running clinic on May 21st at Stratham Hill Park.

Running is a basic human movement pattern that should be easy!  However, as we go through our lives, we often lose the connection we once had well established.  Pain, injuries and a sedentary lifestyle are all things that can go into causing your body to lose its connection.  Being able to tap into the ingrained neuromuscular patterns can bring back this connection and help you combat all of the things that caused you to lose it in the first place.

This clinic is open to beginners to advanced runners. Whether you have been running for many years, are returning to running after time off and/or injuries, or are new to running, all athletes can benefit from developing a strong connection in the body, and correcting movement patterns that may be contributing to pain or injuries.

The Warm Up:  Key warm up exercises will be demonstrated, focused on stimulating your neuromuscular system, with the purpose of producing a more fluid and connected gait pattern.  These exercises will quickly re-establish connection through your body, from you head to your toes, to have you run with more ease, and help prevent injuries or future issues.

Drills: We will learn a series of progressive drills, with the goal of improving movement efficiency and control. By breaking down the elements of proper gait mechanics through drills, we reinforce correct movement patterns in our natural gait. This increases efficiency, power & speed, as well as preventing injuries that can result from imbalanced or incorrect mechanics.

The Cool Down: How many of us finish our run and rush off to the next thing? We are busy athletes! But a proper cool down is crucial to helping your body recover from the high impact of running and retain the benefits of the training session. Learn how a simple 5 minute routine after your run can help you reap the benefits of the hard work you put in.

Optional Gait Assessment: We are combining Dr. Kyle's deep knowledge of movement and how the body should work, along with Coach Anne's Run Gait Assessment Certification and background working with runners of all experience levels to offer a running assessment to participants. These assessments will be at Roots Integrative Therapies Portsmouth Office, to be scheduled in the weeks following the clinic. During signup, you will have the opportunity to add a gait assessment for a discounted price. This will include a brief postural assessment with Dr. Kyle, followed by videos of you running on a treadmill, which Dr. Kyle & Coach Anne will then analyze. This assessment will focus on finding the key areas of dysfunction leading to reduced running connection.  This will be followed up with our findings and exercises targeted to address these areas of impairment. This is ideal for any athlete who has experienced nagging injuries or discomfort from running, but hasn't been able to pinpoint the cause of these issues. Running assessments can also be used to pinpoint imbalances or inefficiencies which keep you from performing at your best.
