Description
January is cold and, for lots of us, it's a month with a lack of races. Trying to beat the January blues, we've decided that a little competition is a good thing. So the Hedgehog Hustle is back! As with the prior edition of the race, it's a virtual race, but with a bit of twist -- the choice of a cumulative marathon, 50 miler, 100 miler, or 250 miles over the month of January.
The Hoglet (Marathon)
Run (and time) a total of 26.2 Miles during the month of January. You can run 1 mile (and a tiny bit) per day for 26 days, 26.2 miles in one day, 13.1 miles on 2 days, 6.55 miles on 4 days, or anything in between. It's your choice. You just need total mileage to add up to 26.2 miles by the end of the month to be eligible for awards.
The Hedgehog (50 Miler)
Run (and time) a total of 50 Miles during the month of January. You can run 2 miles per day for 25 days, 50 miles in one day, 25 miles on 2 days, 12.5 miles on 4 days, or anything in between. It's your choice. You just need total mileage to add up to 50 miles by the end of the month to be eligible for awards.
The Boss Hogg (Progressive 100 Miler)
Run (and time) a total of 100 Miles during the month of January. You can run 4 miles per day for 25 days, 100 miles in one day, 50 miles on 2 days, 25 miles on 4 days, or anything in between. It's your choice. You just need total mileage to add up to 100 miles by the end of the month to be eligible for awards.
The Whole Hog (Total of 250 Miles)
Bike, run, swim, snowshoe, ski (and time) a total of 250 Miles during the month of January. In this category (and this category only) you can use miles from any activity including activities with wheels or skis. You can move 25 miles per day for 10 days, 250 miles in one day, 50 miles on 5 days, or anything in between. It's your choice. You just need total mileage to add up to 250 miles by the end of the month to be eligible for awards.
How does it work?
You run (or in the case of the Whole Hog, bike, swim, ski, whatever) the specified distance at a time and place of your choosing. You then upload both the time AND a supporting file to RunSignUp (supporting files can be GPS files, pictures of your watch, pictures of a treadmill readout -- something to show you completed the distance). Using those times and files, we'll compile results for the challenge. All runners who complete their chosen challenge will be mailed a Hedgehog Hustle medal. The top ten athletes in each race (26.2 miles, 50 miles, 100 miles, and 250 miles) will receive a very special Hedgehog Hustle award.
What does it cost?
Early registration is $25. After November 15 the price goes up to $30.
What else do I get?
Community is really, really important to us. In addition to race results, medals, fun raffles, and awards for the top ten athletes each race category, you'll be given access to free training plans through Training Peaks to help you step up in distance or, if you're a veteran, get faster; you will be invited to a Hedgehog Hustle Facebook group to share your training and racing and be able to have questions answered by Sonic Endurance coaches and you'll be able to participate in fun games and challenges throughout the months of December and January (Ivy and the red barn will be making an appearance to award weekly raffle prizes).
