Lisa and Dan Hindley gave birth to their stillborn daughter, Guilia, on February 15, 2014. Lisa was 32 weeks along, and they, along with their 3 year old son, Shane, and other family members and friends, were not expecting the outcome they received when they visited the hospital that day for a routine matter. Guilia had passed.
From the moment the doctors delivered the news to Dan and Lisa, all the way up to present day, the staff at Virtua Hospital has been beyond supportive, sympathetic, and even empathetic. Nurses, doctors, and even workers in the hospitality department were checking in, and doing whatever was necessary to bring some kind of comfort to them. They were even able to make contact with a family that went through this terrible tragedy, almost exactly a year prior.
Virtua Hospital and Virtua Foundation have many resources available to families that have experienced infant loss. Support groups, one on one visits with counselors, and an Angel Garden. The Angel Garden is located on the grounds of the hospital, but tucked away to provide peace and serenity to those that visit. This location was a dream and a vision that one woman had. Ann Coyle. She wanted families to have a place to stop by and reflect, when they felt a need to be close to their Angel Baby. It is a beautifully landscaped area, with a sprawling water wall, adorned with square, little plaques, each bearing an infant's name. Along side of this water wall, is a statue of an angel, cradling an infant.
The Angel Garden and the bereavement program is funded solely on donations and fundraising. So, Dan and Lisa, have decided to help raise funds that will help other families, such as themselves.
