Brigantine Elks Bayfest Swim and Paddle Festival will feature four events:
Dorothy H. (Dotsie) Mohn and her boyfriend Warren Brown, an AC Lifeguard and Elks Bartender, invited the Brigantine and Atlantic City Lifeguards to participate in the first Elks Competitive Swim in 1994. Dotsie called it "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay" and started to design a t-shirt logo to give out to the swimmers for the competition.
Tragically, Dotsie was killed in a car accident not long after. Warren and Dotsie's sisters decided to continue her idea and have the event in her honor. The "Dorothy H. Mohn Memorial Swim," as it's called today, continues for its 29th year at the 2023 Elks Bayfest!
Next time you visit the Lodge, take a look in the vestibule to see this plaque complete with Dotsie's picture and past winners of the swim.
