During the winter months don't let your brain and body turn into mush.
Instead join the Vernon Township Board of Recreation in a Walking in a Winter Wonderland 60/60 Challenge.
What does that mean you may ask? It's easy! Just walk outside for 60 minutes each day for 60 continuous days, from 01/01/2021 - 03/01/2021. Log your walk each day and receive a certificate and a prize once you complete the challenge. Upload pictures to share your adventures and progress! You can also print your own personal bib once registered.
Get inspiration emails to keep you going as you reach milestones.
Why take on the challenge?
A walk in the woods gazing at trees, snow and, if you’re lucky, wildlife, can leave you feeling restored and rejuvenated. Although we inherently feel that spending time in nature is good for us, we may not realize just how good it can be for our health. Forests not only play a major role in cleaning our air and water, but also provide beneficial changes to the minds and bodies of those who spend time among the trees.
Studies show, exposure to nature strengthens our immune system, reduces blood pressure, increases energy, boosts our mood and helps us regain and maintain our focus in ways that treeless environments just don’t. We are very fortunate that Vernon is home to a variety of walking trails and we can reap the rewards of nature therapy just by stepping outside!
These benefits don’t necessarily come from intense physical activities. Almost anyone can reap the rewards of a short sojourn to the woods. The American Heart Association encourages as little as 30 minutes of walking a day. Even just 20 minutes in a forested space is enough to produce positive changes in the body.
