Miles for Recovery

September 1, 2020 - September 30, 2020 Gardnerville, NV 89410 US

Description

Due to Covid-19 we here at Tahoe Youth and Family Services (TYFS), like many others, have had to make changes to our fundraising activities within our community.  We greatly missed our annual Run, Jog, Walk on Carson Valley Days, and we look forward to bringing it back for 2021!  We are also planning a three-event series, beginning with this challenge, including another kind of virtual challenge in March 2021, and concluding with our annual in person 5K with Carson Valley Days 2021.  More info to come on this triple event in the future, in the meantime, however, we are thrilled to be able to host this virtual challenge for our community and beyond.
                      National Recovery Month.

Recovery Month:

Recovery Month promotes the societal benefits of prevention, treatment, and recovery for mental and substance use disorders, celebrates people in recovery, lauds the contributions of treatment and service providers, and promotes the message that recovery in all its forms is possible. Recovery Month spreads the positive message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, that prevention works, treatment is effective and people can and do recover.  For additional information and resources on Recovery Month, please visit their website by clicking here.

The Challenge:

In celebration of National Recovery Month in September, we have partnered with Carson Valley Medical Center to bring you a virtual challenge!  We have several options so everyone can feel good about participating and supporting our community members near and wide in recovery.  We’re offering a 30-mile and 100-mile challenge, so if you’re looking to get the family outdoors more or if you’re a fitness enthusiast looking for a true challenge, sign up now! You can complete these miles any way you choose, through any combination of activities! Run, walk, cycle, swim, paddleboard, kayak, roller skate, ride a horse, whatever your favorite way to rack up miles as long as it doesn’t have an engine.  And because this is a challenge rather than a race, no need to worry about keeping track of times, just submit your miles.  You can submit as you go or log them all on your own and submit them as one lump sum when you’re done, whatever’s most convenient for you!

Prizes:

  • Prizes will be given to participants who sign up before August 31, 2020, so get those entries in!

  • 30-mile challengers will receive a water bottle, sticker and neck gaiter!

  • 100-mile challengers will receive a water bottle, sticker, t-shirt, and neck gaiter!

  • The first 100 to sign up for the 100 mile challenge will also receive a medal, so sign up quick!

  • There will be a random drawing for a grand prize item, which we will announce as we get closer to Recovery Month

  • International challengers can expect to see different prize options, which will be announced soon

Shipping:

  • Local participants will have a pickup option, more details to be provided as we approach the end of September

  • Please provide valid shipping addresses so prizes will reach you!

  • Due to the current environment, shipping and ordering delays may be experienced. Please allow 2-3 weeks from the entry close date (September 15) for goodies to arrive.

  • International challengers, unfortunately shipping costs will be prohibitive in getting you the bigger prize items, so we will announce our international shipping information at the same time as we announce the prizes for international challengers.
