The Workout
What can you expect from the workout on Friday, January 17th? It should take most people between 30 and 50 minutes to complete. You'll need a hunting backpack (or a pack that can hold at least 40 lbs for males, 20 lbs for females). We will be providing the weight! You'll carry that weight throughout most of the workout, which includes step-ups onto Yeti coolers, lunges, get-ups (think sitting down with your pack on and then standing back up), and suitcase bucket carries (single-arm, also known as Weatherby carries).
In between these stations, you’ll complete a ruck lap up the stairs to the sky bridge and back down. The lap is about 600 yards and should take around 3–7 minutes. There may also be a surprise or two along the way! I’ll send more details in about a week, but remember: you’ll need your hunting backpack! If you don’t have one, this is your perfect excuse to pick one up at the expo!
Waves
What’s a wave? A wave is a group of 30 participants who will start the workout together. On Friday, January 17th we’ll have 17 waves, starting at 0800 and running every 15 minutes until noon. Waves are limited to 30 participants each.
Wave Selection and Swag Bag pick up opens Thursday, January 16th at 3pm-5pm at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. It will continue starting at 7am on Friday, January 17th. If you have a booth, you'll get preference in the first waves. If you can be there at 3pm on the 16th to pick up your swag bag and select your wave we would greatly appreciate it. If you can’t make it on January 16th, don’t worry—you can choose your wave on the day of the event! Waves will be selected on a first-come, first-serve basis.
To keep things running smoothly, we suggest competitive division participants choose an earlier wave, as they’ll likely finish faster. Non-competitive participants should select a later wave. Waves will be selected on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The event is not meant to be hyper-competitive, but we want those who want to go fast to have that option. We'll have some awesome prizes for the top finishers in each age and gender bracket for both the competitive and non-competitive divisions.
After you finish the workout (or while you are waiting for your wave), you will likely have time to go walk around the expo, clean up, and/or volunteer! Remember to get back to the finish line by approximately 1pm!
Reminder: The Sheep Hunt winner will be drawn randomly from the entire group of finishers, which includes both competitive and non-competitive divisions. The winner will be drawn at approximately 1pm!
Must Be Present to Win
We’ll draw the Sheep Hunt winner at approximately 2 pm on January 17th. To win, you must be present, so stick around to cheer on the final finisher! Once they cross the line, we'll announce the winner. There are a variety of events going on that day. To accommodate the women attending the Ladies Luncheon we will expect them to be back to the expo by approximately 2pm as we will delay the drawing for them. The ladies luncheon wraps up at 130pm so they can make it back to the expo by 2pm.
In addition to the Sheep Hunt prize, we’ll have plenty of exciting raffle prizes and awards for the top finishers in each division.

Want to win an August 2025 Dall Sheep hunt? One lucky participant will be randomly drawn for the hunt of a lifetime with Stan Stevens Mackenzie Mountain Outfitters! The catch...you have to work out!
MTNTOUGH has designed the 2025 TOUGH SHEEP Workout to simulate the challenges and mental toughness required for a sheep hunt. 500 participants will face a rigorous workout that mirrors the rugged terrain and physical demands of a sheep hunt. The emphasis will be on completing the workout, rather than competition, highlighting the perseverance and determination needed for success in both the workout and a sheep hunt.
We believe that this event has the potential to raise significant funds for wild sheep conservation, providing vital support for your organization's efforts to preserve and enhance wild sheep populations and their habitats. Proceeds will go to the Wild Sheep Foundation with a goal of handing them a $50,000 check at the banquet on January 18, 2025! Show your dedication and work out for conservation!
MTNTOUGH is committed to making this event a success and is excited about the opportunity to partner with the Wild Sheep Foundation. We are confident that the 2025 TOUGH SHEEP Workout will be a memorable and impactful event that will benefit both you and wild sheep conservation for years to come.
*Registered participants can purchase day passes early at a discounted rate! Promo sent after TOUGH SHEEP registration.
**You must work out and be present to win! Competitive and Non-Competitive Divisions qualify to win the hunt. The Competitive Division will be slightly harder than the Non-Competitive Division. If you want to go hard, then enter the Competitive Division. If you want to simply finish it, then enter the Non-Competitive Division. There will be prizes in both divisions for age and gender brackets!
***The workout will require your hunting backpack (we will provide the weight). It should take most people 30 to 50 minutes to complete. You will need your hunting backpack, or a pack that can hold at least 40lbs males (20lbs for females). You will have that weight on your backs the entire time. There will be step-ups onto Yeti coolers, lunges, get-ups (think sitting down with your backpack on and then having to stand back up), and suitcase (aka Weatherby) carries! In between, there will be a ruck lap that goes up the stairs to the sky bridge and back down. That ruck will be around 600 yards which should take around 3-7 minutes. As always, expect a surprise or two! All of this can change, but that should help!
