RIDE/RUN to HEAL – 1 Day Challenge: 4.2 mile Virtual Ride or Run
Help us to raise $5,000 for the Jackie Robinson Foundation!
A spate of racially motivated incidents has fueled a resurgence of activism and a push for equality and justice in every city, town, and hamlet across the country.
In the spirit of unity, friends Suzanne Musho and Christopher Payne organized a 100-day virtual ride/run – RIDE/RUN to HEAL – several months ago to raise money and awareness for the Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF)—a national nonprofit scholarship organization and living legacy of sports pioneer, social justice advocate and humanitarian Jackie Robinson. To date, the RIDE/RUN to HEAL initiative has raised $10,964.73 for the Foundation which, since 1973, has provided over $90 million in scholarships, hands on mentoring, and leadership development opportunities to talented college students of color with limited financial resources.
In an effort to maximize donations to JRF as the fundraiser approaches its 100th day (and its conclusion), the RIDE/RUN to HEAL founders have organized a one-day virtual ride-a-thon on Friday, August 28th.
August 28th holds special significance for JRF this year. Major League Baseball’s re-scheduled ‘Jackie Robinson Day’ will take place on the 28th, and on this date 75 years ago Jackie Robinson had his historic meeting with Brooklyn Dodgers general manager, Branch Rickey. It was during this meeting that Mr. Rickey determined that Robinson was indeed the man who possessed the character and spirit to end baseball’s color line.
