Description
Virtual NY Pride 5k, is encouraging everyone to #StayHealthy during these challenging times. By participating in the Virtual Pride 5k, sponsored by Newsday you can send the message to the LGBTQ community of New York that they are not alone. Just because we can’t physically run or walk the 5k together this year, doesn’t mean we can’t run or walk it together, but apart.
- Virtual NY Pride 5k is a virtual race that means you can run or walk on your own, at any time of day, in any place where you can be safe and responsible during the 3-day window of Friday, June 12th at 9am to Sunday June 14th at 2pm.
- You can run or walk your neighborhood, your treadmill, or a local 5k course where you can safely practice social distancing of being 6 feet between you and others.
- You can track your time for the Virtual NY Pride 5k (3.1 miles) using: a GPS watch, your smartphone via many apps (MapMyRun, Runkeeper, Nike Run Club, etc.).
- When the race period starts, you can submit your results by going to the "Results" tab of this website and clicking on the "Submit Virtual Results" button. You will be emailed instructions reminding you how to submit your time.
- If your using GPS tracking software for your run? Consider running a HEART for our HEROES for the frontline heroes leading the fight against COVID-19 who we are honoring. Then share your ‘run art’ with us using the hashtags #VirtualNYPride5k #Pride5kRunArt #HeartsforHeroes.
- Don’t have a GPS to do ‘run art’, use the same hashtags #VirtualNYPride5k #Pride5kRunArt #HeartsforHeroes and give a shout out to our LGBTQ Heroes on social media.
- The race period will begin Friday, June 12th at 9:00 a.m. EDT and will go until Sunday, June 14th at 2 p.m. The results will be shared toward the end of the live stream of Virtual NY Pride, along with a brief virtual medal ceremony to all the participants.
- Proceeds of the Virtual NY Pride 5k will go to the New York LGBTQ Care Fund, started by the LGBT Network, it will help deliver vital mental health services, job assistance programs and will also help fund a new food bank program for LGBTQ people living in Queens & Long Island.
