Description

These training options are designed for those who are training for our West of the River Series: June Jaunt, 5K, Father's Day; The Potato Run, 10K, Labor Day Weekend; Barbecue Bash Quarters, quarter to full marathon, First Sunday in November.  Registration for the series or any individual race is separate (https://runsignup.com/Race/NY/Rochester/WestoftheRiverSeries).

Where:
Workouts are usually at Greece Canal Park, at 241 Elmgrove Rd., Rochester, NY 14626 until too dark for the park (it closes at dusk). It has year-round restrooms and ample parking, making it an ideal base of operations.

What:
Tuesdays are hill workouts. Thursdays are speed workouts. Saturdays are long distance workouts. Includes workout plan through race weekend, coached sessions by Coach Vickey Beaver, supplemental information during meetings and online, and access to private training group Facebook page.

When:
Choose mornings or a.m./p.m. mix. The mornings only option all start at 8 a.m. That's ideal for second-shift workers and those who are otherwise free in the daytime. The a.m./p.m. mix is stats at 6 p.m. for the Tue/Thu workouts and 8 a.m. for the Saturday workouts.

There will be times when a scheduled workout is not coached or may offer an alternate arrangement. For example, there will be no Saturday workout on Nocturnal 12 weekend. Participants will be offered options for doing miles during that race instead.

Meet the Coach

This program is designed and led by Vickey A. Beaver. She earned her certification from Road Runners of America for coaching runners and Athletics and Fitness Association of America for Group Exercise Instruction, so you are getting someone who is serious about helping others. Having been an avid walker for years, she got out of the habit of exercising altogether and didn't find her way back to it until mid-2010. Starting with just a couple of miles around a local mall by herself, a year later, she was meeting different friends there and elsewhere five days a week at varying speeds and distances, as they joined her on her training journey to walk the December 2011 Honolulu Marathon. One thing led to another and she has embraced exercise again for very different reasons than when she was first active. Now she enjoys it for how it makes her feel, the community she's become part of, and the short- and long-term health benefits she sees in her health exams and assessments.

Coach Vickey prides herself on getting to know her clients and keeps her classes small so she can ensure each person gets individualized attention.
