Description
Enjoy fall colors and help the homeless with the Shelter Trail Run! The Shelter Trail Run is a 1 mile run/walk through the rugged trails of the John Beltz Retreat Center. This race is done in partnership with the Community Shelter Board, which works to help provide shelter for the homeless in Franklin County. Runners are encouraged to bring donatable items (see below) to be collected at the start. Additional proceeds from this race will be put towards securing needed items for the Community Shelter Board. Timing for the race will be manual.
Community Shelter Board leads a coordinated, community effort to make sure everyone has a place to call home. CSB is the collective impact organization driving strategy, accountability, collaboration, and resources to achieve the best outcomes for people facing homelessness in Columbus and Franklin County. With the support of a compassionate community, their system of care served 14,000 people last year with homelessness prevention, shelter, street outreach, rapid re-housing, and permanent supportive housing.
Community Shelter Board is funded by the City of Columbus, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Ohio Development Services Agency, the State of Ohio, United Way of Central Ohio, The Columbus Foundation, Nationwide Foundation, American Electric Power Foundation, Battelle, and many other public and private investors.
Donatable items include:
-Hygiene items
-Socks
-Baby wipes
-Gatorade (for those facing homelessness who were diagnosed with COVID-19)
This race is the Eagle Project of Matthew Conroy, to earn his Eagle Scout rank. This race is made possible by the Overbrook Presbyterian Church JBRC committee's support.
