Description

The International Boxing Club in Toledo provides free boxing classes for people with Parkinson's in an effort to Knock Out Parkinson's Disease!  Participating in these classes helps help people improve their quality of life and cope with the disease.  Money raised through functions such as this 5K Run/1 Mile Walk subsidize the cost of these classes for > 150 people with Parkinson's in the greater Toledo area.

The race is named in honor of Dick O'Brien who was a very active participant in the KOPD classes.  Mr. O'Brien asked to be buried with his boxing gloves when he passed away in 2016.  He lived in Lambertville, MI and was originally from Toledo, OH.  He graduated from the University of Toledo's College of Law.  Dick served in the Air Force for four years where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant.

His service to the Greater Toledo Community included volunteer work in a variety of capacities at Gesu Parish, Boy Scouts, School Board, and he did other volunteer work with a number of local veteran organizations.

T-shirts (5 color with the IBC logo) are included/available for participants who register in advance of the race.  Since our t-shirt order must be placed with that vendor on Aug 3, 2023, we will order some extras in anticipation of additional people signing up after that date.  If you sign up after Aug 3, we cannot guarantee you will get your t-shirt size you want or a t-shirt on the day of the race.  T-shirts will be available while supplies last on race day. We will order more, and you will be able to pick them up at the International Boxing Club at a later date.

The prize for the top (3) Female and Male 5K runners is a full-size, leather, championship belt.

The cost to enroll is $30/person

Packet pick-up in advance of the race will be at Dave's Running (5700 Monroe St., Sylvania, OH 43560) on Thursday, August 17 & Friday August 18th, 2023 from 5:00PM through 7:00PM.  Packet pick up will also be available the day of the race from 7:00am to 8:00am.

If you don’t register until race day, we will have to order your t-shirt. You can pick it up when the order is in.
