Race Postponed to Late March
New Date: Late March
Hi Runners,
We have made the difficult decision to postpone the Legends of the Valley: Backyard XC event due to circumstances outside our control.
We understand this may be disappointing, and we truly appreciate your enthusiasm for the event. We are currently targeting late March for the new date and hope to confirm the details soon.
Thank you for your understanding and support—we’re looking forward to seeing you on the trails this spring!

Cross Country (XC) aggregate team scoring:
1. Team Size: In most cross-country races, each team has up to 7 runners, but only the top 5 finishers from each team contribute to the team’s score.
2. Scoring: The places where the top 5 runners finish are added together to form the team’s score. For example, if a team’s runners finish in 2nd, 4th, 8th, 10th, and 15th place, their score would be 2 + 4 + 8 + 10 + 15 = 39.
3. Low Score Wins: In cross-country, the goal is to achieve the lowest score. A team whose runners finish closer to the front of the race will have a lower score, leading to a higher team ranking.
4. 6th and 7th Runners (Displacers): Although only the top 5 runners contribute to the team’s score, the 6th and 7th runners are important too. They can "displace" runners from other teams by finishing ahead of their top 5, pushing those runners farther back in the rankings and increasing the other teams' scores.
5. Tiebreakers: In the event of a tie between two teams, the 6th runner’s position is used as a tiebreaker. The team with the better 6th runner will rank higher.
