2020 Shelter Dog Strut has been cancelled
The Friends of the Shelter Dogs has made the decision to cancel the 2020 Shelter Dog Strut. We tried our best to maintain this year's plan to gather, celebrate, and support our mission with this event. It is one that many of us look forward to, and it raises a significant amount of funds for all the work we do to help the adoptable dogs at the Athens County Dog Shelter.
With COVID numbers on the rise, we do not feel it is in anyone's best interest to continue with a race or gathering this year. Our hope is that if we all can do our part to flatten the virus curve we will be able to have a race in 2021.
Cancelling the race will impact our budget and while many activities are no longer occurring, dogs still enter the shelter every single day, and continue to need help from FOSD. We are happy to refund your registration fee, but if you are able to "make it a gift" it would help us to supplement our reserves through the pandemic.
Every person's situation is different, and we understand that, so if you would like your race registration refunded, please let us know and we will take care of it immediately. If you choose to convert your registration to a tax deductible gift, we appreciate it.

Join the Friends of the Shelter Dogs and our Ohio University affiliate Bobcats of the Shelter Dogs for the third annual Shelter Dog Strut: 5K-9 Run/Walk and be a part of our mission - to help dogs from the Athens County Dog Shelter.
The event will be held at the Eclipse Company Store in The Plains, Ohio. All ages and skill levels of runners, walkers, and friendly 4-legged companions are encouraged to get out and take part in this family friendly event on Saturday, April 18th!
Run/walk starts promptly at 11am. (Registration/Check in starts at 10:00 am) ♦♦♦ Dogs attending on race day MUST be well-behaved, friendly with other dogs, vaccinated, and on a NON-RETRACTABLE LEASH ♦♦♦
- The out-and-back 5K Run/Walk course will start and end on Jackson Drive near the entrance to the bike path at the Eclipse Company Store. If you or your four-legged companion can't complete the entire 5K course- you can turn around at any of the mile markers along the path.
- Participants who register before March 31 will be guaranteed an event t-shirt.
- Prizes will be awarded to the Top three runners overall, Top 3 dogs and Top 3 Youth Under 12.
- PLUS: special prizes will be awarded in pooch participant categories posted on race day.
After you finish your race- hang out on the lawn for a FREE Concert. Stay for lunch and a cold beer at the Eclipse Company Store with a variety of hand -pattied burgers, smoked wings, fresh salads, and more than 40 craft beers on tap.
