Description
When former Westerville City School District (WCSD) Superintendent Dr. George Tombaugh passed away on February 20, 2019, family members approached the Westerville Education Foundation (WEF) with a desire to establish a fund to which individuals could make a donation in lieu of flowers to honor the late educator.
At its conclusion, the initiative raised nearly $5,000 and allowed the family to establish the Dr. George Tombaugh Fund. This fund, managed through the WEF’s competitive grants program, supports innovative instructional programming and unique learning experiences for WCSD students.
Dr. Tombaugh loved education, his family, his animals, and his exercise! It only made sense to establish a family-focused fitness event in his name and thus replenish the fund year over year.
We invite you to join us for the 3rd Annual Dr. Tombaugh Dash – Family 5K & Fun Run. This year's event has both in-person and virtual offerings. This year's in-person race will be at Westerville North High School on their cross-country course. For the virtual event, all materials will be shipped/delivered to you directly and you can participate in the run/walk at your own pace and place!

Early Packet Pickup
All in-person event participants can make use of our early packet pickup to save time on event morning! Stop by Columbus Running Company's Westerville location (50 N State St 43081) on Saturday, June 18, 2022, between 10 AM and 6 PM to get your race gear. There will also be race-day pickup available at the event beginning at 7:30 AM.
The virtual events will not have items available at the early packet pickup event. Your race items will be mailed/delivered to you directly. 5K registrants will receive your choice of a branded event t-shirt OR a branded event bandana (available while supplies last). Fun Run registrants will receive a participation ribbon. Details on the timing of mailing/delivery will be provided soon.
In-Person Race Course
This 5K will take place at Westerville North High School on their cross country course. A cross-country course is not paved and takes place entirely on grass and earthen pathways. Walkers are welcome, but please do refrain from walking side-by-side in the woods so that others may pass easily. Strollers are allowed but discouraged as they may present difficulty due to the terrain. If you have a jogging stroller that works well "off-road", that would be a great option. A traditional stroller would not be a good fit for this course.
