On Saturday, October 7, the unthinkable happened: Israel was ruthlessly invaded by the terrorist organization Hamas via land, air, and sea. Entire families were slaughtered inside their homes, women were raped, bodies murdered in cold blood were cast aside and desecrated. Every day since then has been a living, breathing horror movie as 300,000+ reservists were called up to fight a war no Israeli ever thought they would have to fight.
Before this nightmare began, we were a group of 29 teens studying in Hod HaSharon, Israel as part of URJ Heller High. With 2.5 months left of our program, the difficult decision was made that we needed to be sent home to ease the burden on the staff working tirelessly while also worrying about their family and friends, as well as to keep us safe. Now, back stateside, we are trying to do all we can to assist the wartime effort of this three front war -- the war in Israel, the war against misinformation, and the war against rampant antisemitism in the states and around the world.
