5,000 OPEN METER CROSS COUNTRY RACE & 1 MILE YOUTH (12 AND UNDER) CROSS COUNTRY RUN
The Belmont Plateau Hall of Fame Classic is celebrating it's 8th year and will be held on Saturday, August 24 with a youth (6-12 yrs old) cross country mile at 8:45 am followed by the 5,000 cross country race at 9am. This race is the opening race of the cross country season at Belmont Plateau , America's premier venue for cross country racing since 1963. Both races are run on the challenging course with a good mix of grass, gravel trails, and hills. The race is open to all age groups and teams. The event is organized by the Belmont Plateau Cross Country Hall of Fame with the support from the City of Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Dept. and the Fairmount Park Conservancy. The overall mission of the Hall of Fame is to support and promote the sport of Cross Country/Distance running in the City of Philadelphia by selecting an annual nomination of past distance running champions to the HOF. We also sponsor awards for XC Champs for Phila Public and Catholic League, helping in the annual maintenance of the XC trails at Belmont Plateau, and raising funds to build a "Walk of Fame" at the park. The race will be followed by a nomination ceremony of the " 2024 Class to the HOF". Whe encourage runners to form teams. Teams are in two categories-" All male" or "All female" teams. Go to team registration to register teams. Belmont Plateau Park is a city park- so make sure no valuables are left in the car. We will have a check in of bags and valuables at the registration area.
T shirts to all who pre register and while they last on race day. Race day registration starts at 7:30 am at Belmont Plateau Park. PRE REGISTRATION UP TO THURSDAY, AUGUST 22- (11:59 PM) PRE and RACE DAY REGISTRATION PRICE OF= 1 Mile Youth Cross Country Mile ($12) 5,000 Meter XC ($25) PRICE. . .. CASH AWARDS: Top 3 men and top 3 women ($100, $75, $50) and 10 year age group awards for 5k. Top 3 boys and Top 3 girl runners in the youth XC Mile will receive awards. TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP- There will be open team competition and awards to top 3 Men and top 3 Women teams (Unlimited number on team with the top 3 scoring/cross country scoring. The Hall of Fame Classic will also serve as the 2024 USATF Mid-Atlantic Master (Over 40 years old) Cross Country Championship. Special awards/separate scoring for USATF teams and individuals with $50 to the top overall M and F Mid Atlantic Master runner. For more details on the Mid Atlantic XC Champs , go to www.mausatf.org. This annual race supports the Belmont Plateau Cross Country Hall of Fame. The goals of the Belmont Plateau Cross Country Hall of Fame are to continue the long tradition of cross country running at '"the Plateau" by recognizing and honoring post great runners and coaches with annual elections to the Hall Of Fame and raising funds to support the maintenance and development af the race courses,as well as sponsor Championship Cross Country Awards for the Phila Catholic and Phila Public Leagues. 8:45 AM 1 MILE Youth Run Young runners can experience the outside loop of the traditional cross country race
course which includes 'Flagpole Hill". Awards to the top 3 boy and girl finishers (12 years old and younger).
9:00 AM- 5,000 meter Men and Women's Combined Cross Country Race- The cross country race will cover the
traditional 5k course used during the season with the challenging "Front Hill" and "Parachute Hill".
HALL OF FAME TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP for men only team and women only teams. (at least 3 runners of the same
gender for team). Cross Country scoring of the top 3 runners on the team with the top 3 runners from each team will
score. Awards to the top 3 men and women teams.
