Description
- 1 in 5 women in the U.S. experience a mental health condition like anxiety or depression each year.
- Women are twice as likely as men to experience depression, and many suffer without seeking help due to stigma, fear, or lack of support.
- Hormonal changes (e.g., during menstruation, pregnancy, postpartum, and menopause) can impact a woman’s mental health significantly.
- Black, Indigenous, and women of color often face additional layers of trauma, systemic racism, and underdiagnosis when it comes to mental health support.
- Trauma and abuse—including emotional, physical, or sexual abuse—are strongly linked to higher rates of anxiety, PTSD, and depression in women.
- 60% of women with anxiety never receive treatment, often due to fear of judgment or being perceived as “weak.”
- Mental health is just as important as physical health. Untreated mental illness can affect sleep, heart health, immunity, and relationships.
- Social media and cultural expectations often pressure women to appear “perfect” while silently struggling underneath.
- Self-care isn’t selfish. Setting boundaries, saying “no,” and asking for help are acts of strength, not weakness.
- You are not alone. There is help available—therapy, support groups, hotlines, and community support can make a huge difference.
