RunRI 95.6 Challenge

🏃🏽‍♂️🌊⚓️↩️

Description

Join our Run RI Challenge and run the distance from each of our iconic finish locations.  Run the equivalent distance from Narragansett Town Beach to the State House in Providence.  Choose the 56.6 mile option or go long with the 95.6 mile option, heading back to Narragansett from Providence.

You have the month of July to complete the total distance.  Choose to run each leg's mileage each week, or run the entire mileage in one week.  Choose one day each week to bang out the leg's mileage as your "long run" for the week.  Or for our crazy ultra's, run the entire distance in one day for your ULTRA challenge!  The challenge is flexible from beginning runners up to our most seasoned.

At the same time, we will be raising much-needed funds and supporting our local RI Running Community.  During the registration process, you will be asked to "join a team."  We will be donating $10 of each $40 entry fee to your team choice.  Team options include:

  • HS cross country teams (including Portsmouth HS, Mt Hope HS and Narragansett HS),
  • local running stores (Rhode Runner, RunNewport and Wakefield Running)
  • or a local youth charity (Bayside YMCA, Jamestown Parks and Rec, Bonnet Shores Recreation program)

Race entry will include a virtual bib, online results featuring progress bars and exclusive RI-themed swag:  RunRI Challenge sticker, coozie and more!

Leg 1 - Narragansett Town Beach to Fort Getty, Jamestown 13.8 miles

Leg 2 - Fort Getty, Jamestown to Easton's Beach, Newport 9.1 miles

Leg 3 - Easton's Beach, Newport to Independence Park, Bristol 17.6 miles

Leg 4 - Independence Park, Bristol to the Rhode Island State House, Providence - 16.1 miles

Optional Leg 5 - RI State House, Providence to Narragansett Town Beach - 38 miles

FAQ's

DO I HAVE TO RUN THE EXACT ROUTE FROM EACH LOCATION?  You do not, and in many cases, cannot run the actual road from one location to another-, due to restrictions on the RI bridges.  The only leg that can actually be run is Leg 4, from Bristol to Providence via the East Bay Bike Path from Thames St to India Pt Park and then downtown to the State House.  We recommend you run the equivalent distance of the legs where you feel comfortable. OR - run the distance in each location for some fun.  For example, take a day trip to Jamestown for Leg 2 and run around the island.  While there, please consider supporting local businesses such as coffee shops and retailers.

WHEN DO I NEED TO COMPLETE THE CHALLENGE?  The distance needs to be completed in the month of July.  It is up to you as to how to complete the distance.  Run each leg's distance every day in a week and complete the challenge in one week.  Run a total mileage each week equal to that leg's distance.  Spread the entire challenge mileage over the course of the month based on your schedule.  The idea is to set up the challenge that will challenge you!

HOW DO I DO I CHOOSE MY CHARITY FOR MY DONATION?  CAN I DONATE MORE?  When you register, you will be asked to join a team.  You can pick the team based on your affinity for the category of the charity - local HS running programs, our favorite small business - running stores, or local youth programs.  We will divide up the money donated between these groups.  You are always welcome to donate more with our donate button, specifying which group the money should go to.

WHAT ARE THE AMENITIES FOR AN EVENT LIKE THIS?  We have virtual bibs that you can download and wear while running your distance.  There are results submissions and leader boards on our results page.  There will be the ability to upload maps of your route and a map of your progress as you complete the virtual route.  There will be event swag that is RI-beachy themed.  There will be our app, RaceJoy, where we can send long cheers to you as you complete your distance, map your route and submit your times.  Finally, we will create a rich social experience on Facebook for you to share your challenge and your runs, we will have weekly raffle prizes and exclusive access to the race directors.

****Race items will be mailed by August 10, 2020. When registering, your mailing address must be a physical street address and not a Post Office Box for proper delivery.
