The Presenting Sponsor of the Inaugural Rocky Point Patriot 5k/10k Trail run/Walk is the Andy Quattlebaum and Blackwell Family Foundation. We are grateful for their sponsorship; the Foundation is focused on supporting a variety of initiatives - Education, Conservation, Community Enrichment, and Veterans. The 650+ acres that lie within the boundaries of Choppee Road, Choppee Creek and the Black River in Georgetown County is known as Rocky Point Community Forest. This is the site of The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6444 Inaugural Rocky Point Patriot 5k and 10k Trail Run/Walk.
In addition to the 5k and 10k course, we wanted everyone to be aware that the Kids in Parks program officially opened a new TRACK Trail at Rocky Point Community Forest. The Kids TRACK Trail at Rock Point offers a self-guided adventure, supported by educational brochures designed to engage young hikers. Kids are encouraged to explore the new TRACK Trail.
PROCEEDS BENEFIT VFW-Post 6444 in Georgetown, SC and Plantersville Elementary: We hope to engage the walkers and runners in a fun event that supports local Veterans and Plantersville Elementary. Proceeds from the event will go to the Plantersville Elementary Parent Teacher Organization who will use the funds for rewarding educational achievement of their students.
Proceeds also used specifically for Veteran Quarterly Social. Since the main mission of the Veterans of Foreign Wars is to foster camaraderie, a portion of the funds raised will go directly to that Mission. We will be launching a Quarterly Social for Veterans; proceeds will assist us in funding these events.

The Mission of the VFW is to foster camaraderie among United States veterans of overseas conflicts. To serve our veterans, the military and our communities. To advocate on behalf of all veterans.
For veterans, maintaining social connections is a critical component of overall well-being. Transitioning from military service to civilian life can be challenging, and many veterans face feelings of isolation and loneliness. Establishing and nurturing social connections—with fellow veterans, family, and the wider community—can significantly improve mental health, promote a sense of belonging, and reduce the risk of depression and anxiety.
For veterans, social connections provide more than just companionship—they are essential for mental, emotional, and physical well-being. The bonds formed in the military often create a strong sense of camaraderie and belonging, but after service, many veterans find it challenging to replicate those deep connections in civilian life. Without a strong support network, veterans can experience feelings of isolation, which can lead to more severe mental health issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety.
- Plantersville Elementary Digital Immersion School is committed to developing scholars who embrace diversity, compete in a technologically advanced society and are academically proficient through collaboration and innovation while ensuring lifelong success.
In the 1999-2000 school term, the school underwent another total renovation and additions. These additions and renovations included media expansion, a multi-purpose room, science lab, and kindergarten and child development rooms. Today, 100 students enjoy the services of seven classroom teachers, Gifted & Talented, Early Literacy Coach, a kindergarten teacher, a child development teacher, a part-time media specialist, part-time music, art, and physical education teachers, two instructional assistants, a full-time nurse, a part-time guidance counselor/care/parent liaison, a full-time principal, a secretary, an administrative aid, a part-time speech therapist, a full-time special education/preschool developmental teacher, a reading teacher and a part-time school psychologist.
The organizational structure of Plantersville Elementary is presently child development through grade five. Plantersville currently has an all-day child development and kindergarten program. https://www.gcsd.k12.sc.us/o/pes/
