Description
GENERAL INFORMATION. The KEEP RUNNING 5K is timed event with awards and giveaways, the same as a traditional road race. But instead of occurring on a single day, the KEEP RUNNING 5K consists of 13 separate timing sessions from July 25th to August 15th. You choose which session you would like to attend. This is for your safety and let's us maintain social distancing. After the final timing session, we'll combine the results from all sessions and present awards to Overall, Masters, Grandmasters and Age-group winners. The awards will be available at RUN IN, 1942 Augusta Street, or we can mail your award if you're from out of town.
5K COURSE AND VENUE. The KEEP RUNNING 5K course is a fun route through the quiet neighborhoods in the historic Overbrook community. The 5K course has been measured according to official USATF standards. The course is well marked with white arrows painted on the roadway. Participants may obtain a printed map of the course when they arrive for their timing session. The course map will also be posted on this website, not later than July 21st in case you want to pre-run the course. The race starts and ends in front of the Greenville Track Club headquarters located at 1619 East North Street. There is ample parking for participants and restroom facilities are available at the GTC headquarters.
SWAG AND EXTRAS. The KEEP RUNNING 5K has barebone prices but it's not a barebones event. In addition to providing official timing and a full range of awards, we're giving every participant the opportunity to go through our huge selection of leftover race shirts and souvenirs and pick out one (or two) of their favorites to take home. PLUS, EVERY THURSDAY SESSION IS FREE PIZZA NIGHT. This is a laid back event with a relatively small number of participants at each session. You will thoroughly enjoy it!
WHAT IS SESSION TIMING? The KEEP RUNNING 5K is the second race to be held this Summer at the Greenville Track Club's headquarters at 1619 East North Street, This new race follows the same format as the hugely successful Free Bird 5K held on July 4th. Like it's predecessor, The KEEP RUNNING 5K is a "session timed" race consisting of multiple timing sessions offered on separate dates. Session timing was developed by the GTC to afford participants the opportunity to compete in an officially timed race while also maintaining social distancing and observing safety measures during the pandemic. The KEEP RUNNING 5K offers thirteen (13) timing sessions over a 3 week period. The July timing sessions are priced lower than August sessions, and the evening sessions are priced significantly lower than the morning sessions, and provide free pizza! The pricing structure appears confusing to most, but it's necessary for us to promote the evening sessions and avoid overcrowding in the more popular morning sessions.
BIBS & STARTING INTERVALS. The KEEP RUNNING 5K does not have packet pick-up. We will issue bibs at the event site,10 minutes before the beginning of each timing session, If there are less than 10 runners at a session, we will waive the bib requirement and will time runners manually to reduce hassle. We will start the race in 5-person groups at 5-minute intervals. The groups will be arranged by last name, alphabetically, so if your last name starts with A, you will be in the first group and if your last name starts with Z, you will be in the last group. EVERY PARTICIPANT WILL RECEIVE AN EMAIL 24 HOURS PRIOR TO THEIR TIMING SESSION. The email will list the groups, participants, and start times for the session. The first interval (Group #1) for morning sessions will start at 7:15am, and the first interval (Group #1) for evening sessions will start at 7:15pm. NOTE: The actual start time is subject to adjustment, SO PLEASE RELY ON THE INFORMATION IN THE PRE-RACE EMAIL FOR THE CORRECT TIME.
WEATHER POLICY. Timing sessions for the KEEP RUNNING 5K will be conducted rain or shine, so long as there are no high winds, lightning activity or other dangerous conditions. If threatening weather is moving through rather quickly, we may elect to postpone the start time up to 45 minutes. If we have to cancel a timing session, you may choose any other remaining timing session that's not full. Sorry, we don't issue refunds, credits, or transfers to another GTC race, and we won't defer your entry 'til next year's race. Let's just hope we're back to normal racing by then!
