Description
Here's your chance to run a beautiful, challenging 5 KM Trail run and 10KM Road/Trail run in Wartburg TN, within a stone's throw of Frozen Head State Park, home of the infamous Barkley Marathons. WALKERS WELCOME! No one left behind.
Run a terrific course, hang around town for fun and food at the Tennessee Mountain Laurel Festival, and maybe make the short drive over to visit Frozen Head State Park, or historic Brushy Mountain Prison!
All proceeds go to the Morgan Co Tourism Alliance to be used to promote tourism and activities in Morgan Co. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Rocky Top Veterans Foundation.
Course Description
5K - The 5K will begin at the Morgan County Visitors Center and immediately begin its traverse into the newly added portion of the Cumberland Trail. This course challenges the runner with steep, wooded terrain and changing elevations. The course will be well marked, leading the runner to the finish line, at the Morgan County Visitor Center.
10k - The 10K will begin at the Morgan County Visitors Center and lead the runner through the well-marked, scenic countryside and rolling hills of Morgan County roadway before making its way back to the Visitor's Center where the runner will immediately begin their traverse into the newly added portion of the Cumberland Trail. This course challenges the runner with steep, wooded terrain and changing elevations. The course will be well marked, leading the runner to the finish line, at the Morgan County Visitor Center.
Awards and giveaways will begin at 10 am following the start of the Tennessee Mountain Laurel Festival at the courthouse square in downtown Wartburg.
Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to help with setting up/tear down, registration/sign-in, parking, and course direction. Volunteers can sign up by clicking the Volunteer tab on the race website.

Post run
Please bring a water bottle to reduce waste. Water will be available. After the run, hang out at the Tennessee Mountain Laurel Festival for lunch, drinks, and prize giveaways. Runners and non-runners are welcome. Each runner will receive a free ticket and giveaways will be announced directly after the award ceremony.
Weather
This race is in mid-May, but we all know how unpredictable East TN weather can be! Dress sensibly. Race personnel reserve the right to delay, cancel, or suspend the race or modify the course due to inclement weather. As stated on the registration and race pages, there are no refunds or transfers. Participants must abandon the race if ordered to do so by the race personnel, medical staff, fire/paramedics, or police personnel.
Race Day Events
7 - 7:45am Day of Race late registration, and packet pick up.
8:00 am - Start of the 10 KM Race
8:30 am - Start the 5 KM Race
10:00 am - Awards and giveaways at Wartburg Courthouse. MUST BE PRESENT FOR GIVEAWAYS!
Awards
Awards will be announced for the top 5 overall for the 5k and the top 5 overall for the 10k. Results will be posted to this site immediately after the race.
Parking
Parking will be available at Central High School with a short walk to Morgan County Visitor Center.
Virtual 5K Event
This event offers a virtual component. Participants in this event will be able to run or walk the 5K distance (3.1 miles) on the course that they choose anytime between May 3 and midnite May 18. Participants will have access to the RaceJoy application which will allow them to use this phone application to monitor their distance and time on the course. The application will also allow them to upload their time to the virtual results page on RunSignup. Virtual participants are not eligible for awards.
Utilizing the RaceJoy Application for the Virtual Event
Participants will be able to post their individual results either using the RaceJoy application or manually beginning at 12:00 AM on May 3, 2025 and ending at 11:59 PM on May 18, 2025.
Manual results may be posted as follows:
Visit the Mountain Laurel Festival registration page and confirm that you are logged in
Locate the "Results" tab at the top of the menu
Click the "Submit Virtual Results" button
Search for your registration either by first and last name or by email address and date of birth
Once you have found your registration, select "Submit Virtual Results" and enter your finish time
RaceJoy utilization is included as part of the registration fee. The RaceJoy application utilizes your smart phone's GPS capability to record distance and time. Instructions for RaceJoy utilization for virtual events are as follows:
Get the App: Download RaceJoy from the App Store or Google Play.
Find Race: Click Featured Races to access the event you are doing or search by name in the search field.
Set Up Tracking: Click I Want to Be Tracked and follow the prompts carefully. Select the course(s) you plan to complete.
Enter Your Bib Number for Results: For events offering virtual scored results, enter your bib number provided to you by the race. RaceJoy will then automatically submit your finish data.
When you run or walk your course, open the RaceJoy application and follow the prompts to adjust settings as needed. WiFi must be disabled on your phone.
When you start: Click TRACK ME: Make sure to click the green blinking TrackMe button to start the tracking of your phone. Select the course you are signed up to run. Click START MY RACE as you begin your walk/run to start your personal clock. RaceJoy auto detects when you complete the course distance. No need to click Finish.
Race Redo for Virtual Events: You have the option to redo a course multiple times by clicking the redo button. (warning: selecting the redo button will clear previous performance data.)
