Description

March 17, 2020 - Registration for this course is temporarily closed.

We at the RRCA are mindful of the regional, national, and global reaction to the coronavirus and COVID-19. With many public events cancelling and given the limits on public gatherings, we anticipate even more public health measures taken over the coming weeks.

While we're hoping to hold our currently scheduled Level I courses in our traditional small group settings, we are also working on contingency plans should we need to postpone a given course.

We have temporarily closed registration for the remaining open scheduled courses for April and May. Courses in June and beyond are unaffected at this time.

Within the next week we will know more about our possibilities, especially for the Level I courses scheduled for April and May. We'll write to registered course participants as we know more, but please be patient as we try to find the best solution for all of us.

Class will be a mixture of lecture, seminar-style conversation, individual work, and small group exercises, including presentations and role play.  Before the class, you will be asked to view a Webinar as preparation. Day One will include topics such as principles of coaching, principles of building a periodized program, understanding exercise physiology for coaching, running form, and elements of a periodized training program. After Day One, you will be asked to sketch out training plans based on the Case Studies introduced in Day One. This informal and ungraded "homework" assignment asks you to apply materials from Day One to prepare for Day Two's group work. Day Two includes the business of coaching, sports psychology, nutrition for coaching, recognizing injuries and prevention, environmental factors that affect running performance, and building training programs as a group activity. While every cohort receives the same curriculum, every classroom experience has a different dynamic, so the specific schedule may be modified to suit the specific needs of the weekend program.

Participants are encouraged to bring a water bottle for refilling throughout the day as needed. If you have special dietary needs or food allergies, please bring your own food to meet your needs as we are not in a position to accommodate all dietary restrictions. Participants should also bring a pen or pencil for note taking during the course. There will be no running in the course, but feel free to bring running clothes for a social run after the course.
