Description
In 2011, the Air Transportation Community experienced a tragic loss when one of our Brothers was murdered, TSgt Curtis E. Eccleston. In 2013, the Port Dawgs at Kadena Air Base held a memorial run in honor of Curtis, what would become an annual event held around the world across the entire career field. It builds on the strong comradery our career field already maintains and reinforces to every Airmen, when you join this career field, you join a family.
The event is an opportunity to highlight on our installations and in our communities how much Port Dawgs mean to each other. It is traditionally held during National Defense Transportation Week (11-15 May), but we know that some units will have to be flexible because after all, we are making the mission happen across the globe 24/7/365 and must consider restrictions due to the COVID 19.
For those interested in purchasing a Memorial Run T-shirt, please visit the following links:
Short Sleeve (http://patchesforporters.com/2020-port-dawg-memorial-run-short-sleeve-shirt/)
Long Sleeve (http://patchesforporters.com/2020-port-dawg-memorial-run-long-sleeve-shirt/).
All funds raised will be donated to the Fisher House Foundation in the form of a memorial fund in their names. Last year, $6,990 (~40% cost per shirt) was raised, the challenge is upon us to surpass that this year. For more info on the Fisher House Foundation, http://www.fisherhouse.org/.
You of course do not need to purchase a t-shirt to be a part of one of the locally sponsored Port Dawg Memorial Runs, all that’s needed is a little bit of your time and effort to help us remember and honor the members of our pack who are no longer with us. Thank you for all you do and it is an honor to be a member of your team…PORT DAWGS!
