WHAT: Miracle Foundation "2K FUN RUN" - Give the gift of FAMILY!
Hernandez Middle School has partnered with Miracle Foundation for the 2020-2021 school year. Students have learned about the non-profit industry and the mission of Miracle Foundation to provide a loving and stable environment for India's most vulnerable children and orphans.
WHY: Service Learning as IB Students
Our students, as part of an IB (International Baccalaureate) school, have spent time learning about our service motto, "Think GLOBAL, act LOCAL." We teach our students to learn about the world around them and then to help on a local level.
It is now time for our student, family, and community fundraiser in support of Miracle Foundation - A Family for Every Child in Our Lifetime.
WHEN: Two different ways to participate.
Come join us as we celebrate Miracle Foundation with a virtual "2K FUN RUN." Join us in running, jogging, or walking to support Miracle Foundation in their mission of providing a loving and caring family environment for INDIA'S vulnerable children. Donations are appreciated!
-
Saturday, May 8: Family and Community "Virtual" Race Day (participate with your family, friends, and neighbors! Sign up on the website, donate, set your race distance (2K suggested), participate on your own, and then document and upload photos of your "fun run" to support Miracle Foundation.)
-
Monday, May 10 & Tuesday, May 11: For students in their regular P.E. class (on-campus students will participate using the new school track).

The Problem
"As you read this, millions of children are separated from their families, living in institutions or on the streets. Many survive with substandard care, unloved and at risk – all of them dreaming of a family. In the worst cases, this environment exposes children to devastating abuse and psychological trauma, creating adults who are 10x more likely to become sex workers and 50x more likely to be in prison.
"But, we are also in the midst of a profound paradigm shift. Efforts are being made to reform foster care systems, support families before separation occurs and reunite families where preventable separation has occurred. We all know kids everywhere deserve better."
Our Solution
Our work in the past was grounded in helping orphans in need to have a better quality of life but has evolved to also ensure that every child has an opportunity to grow up in a family. Our goal is to prevent children from entering the system in the first place.
A movement has begun and Miracle Foundation is on the front line. Hernandez and our local community are here to help with their amazing and life-changing work - please donate today to support their mission of providing children with a loving and stable family environment.
“Many people don't realize that 80% of children living in institutions have a family, but are separated due to poverty.” --Leslie Beasley, CEO Miracle Foundation.
"We have been advocating for children’s rights for 20 years and on September 26, the National Commision for Protection of Child Rights in India officially stated that: 'You cannot take away the right to a family from a child because of poverty.' In light of this declaration, the NCPCR has directed that 70% of the children currently living in orphanages across India need to be placed within families."
