Description

Historic Walk to Explore the Stories of Midway and Preserve a Rural Future

The Midway Volksmarch fundraising event is a perfect kick-off to the beautiful fall season.  Join us for the 4th Annual Midway Volksmarch and earn a new collector’s stocknagel (pronounced shtewknaygl, also known as a walking stick medallion)!

Proceeds from the Volksmarch will  help us to preserve Midway's priceless rural spaces that are worth saving.  Our current projects include Mountain Spa and the Kohler Dairy as well as many in progress.  Our route map will highlight the progress we are making, but preservation can only be done with your support – so THANK YOU for putting your money where your heart is and helping to preserve the Midway we all love!

Volksmarching is a European tradition that involves people of all ages in a fun, non-competitive walk to bring people together and highlight what makes their town unique.  We are continuing this tradition in our Midway Swiss Mountain Village.  Midway's Volksmarch will take walkers past historic homes, barns, unique geologic features as well as our quaint businesses on Main Street, to the top of our iconic Memorial Hill and back to Midway Town Square for a festive fall party with live music, European food,  booths,  activities, games and more.

Local artist Robert Duncan, has shared his painting “Anniken and the Cows” to show some things are worth saving and Quinn Calder, whose photographs depict rural Midway. Both have contributed prints to sell which have captured the essence of rural Midway, which we are striving to preserve for future generations.

There will be cow bells, walking sticks, Calder’s print, Duncan's posters and more for sale at the event.  You won’t want to miss out on the incredible prizes at the opportunity drawing!

You’ll receive a wristband at check-in which will give participants special discounts on meals and retail items that local businesses plan to offer.  So be sure to make this a weekend event and explore the many great things Midway has to offer.  Consider any of our amazing places to stay including the Zermatt, Blue Boar Inn or the historic Homestead Resort (currently being updated and preserved).

**There is also a historical mile walk for those who may need a shorter route on paved roads.

**Your registration includes a stocknagel (walking stick medallion) and the opportunity to help preserve Midway's rural spaces.
