Description
Yes, we know. A virtual race is not the same as a "real" race, but with current circumstances as a result of Covid-19 we aren't able to hold our Fall Twilight Trail Series as originally planned. That doesn't mean we're going to just cancel and do nothing in 2020. We still want everyone to get out and explore the many great trails in our areas while staying socially distanced, we still want to raise money for a bunch of great local non-profit organizations in our area and also want everyone to still be able to get in on some race shirts and other SWAG. So here's our first ever Create Your Own Trail - Virtual Race Challenge.
How it Works:
Pick a distance, then between Sep 26-Nov 14 log miles until you complete the distance. You don't have to run the distance all at once, create your own courses, explore different trails (or even pavement...) log as many separate activities as you want between the original start and end dates of our original intended fall race series, do as long or short of runs as you want, at whatever time or weather conditions you want! That's 50 days to get those miles in, or think of it this way (10 Miles = three 5Ks over 7 weeks, 25 miles = 1/2 mile a day, 50 miles = 1 mile a day):
- Step 1: Pick a distance and Sign Up!
- Step 2: Invite your friends and family to join the challenge as well.
- Step 3: Run (or walk or hike) and log your distance(s) in RunSignUp.
- Step 4: Be social, share your progress on the BROR Facebook page, support others and win prizes!
Swag and Prizes:
All participants will receive (in the mail) a race shirt and medal
Because we'll be running different courses, times, elevations, conditions; instead of awarding prizes to our fastest finishers like we normally would in-person; instead we're going to award prizes for new categories like: most elevation gained, least elevation gained, most geographic distance covered between runs, most activities logged, longest single activity, best recreation of the Twilight Trail Series courses, and most of all multiple prizes for the best pictures posted on the BROR Facebook page (best wildlife encountered, best doggie companion, most scenic views, biggest log jumped over, etc).
Raising Money for Good Causes:
Our original Twilight Trail Series was meant to have 3 races, each raising money for a different local non-profit Haymarket Elementary PTO, Boy Scouts of America BMES Pack 42 and the Vint Hill Dog Park; since we're just doing one big virtual event instead we're going to pool all the proceeds from this virtual race and divide them three ways. Again as with all our races, 100% of all proceeds will be donated, we won't pocket a cent. Also on the registration page we'll give you the option to donate even more any of those three organizations.
Logging Your Miles:
- Go to the Results page.
- Click Submit Virtual Results and then search for your registration.
- Click the Log Activities next to your name.
- If you aren't logged in, you can quickly verify yourself by phone number or email.
- Click Add an Activity and then enter the date and distance of your run. You may also enter the time and elevation gain and a comment. Entering the time will enable the system to calculate your average pace. Entering elevation will enable the system to track you total elevation.
- Note: If you had multiple runs in a day, you can enter each new run by clicking "Add Another Activity" button or you can aggregate them together for the day. Either works fine. Don't forget to hit submit results when you are done!
