UVA Donor Dash 4 Mile Run/Walk & Transplant Trek 1 Mile Fun Walk (Virtual)

The Charles O. Strickler Transplant Center at the University of Virginia is organizing their inaugural “Donor Dash”   Friday April 23-Monday April 26, 2021.  While future Donor Dashes are planned to be in-person events, this year we are planning a virtual event in recognition of the uncertainty of the current public health crisis and the impact it could have on everyone involved, especially our organ transplant recipient family. 

Our Virtual 4 mile walk/run and a 1 mile “Transplant Trek” fun walk provides an opportunity for us to join together as a community to support the mission of the UVA Transplant Center (https://uvahealth.com/services/transplant) and to promote awareness of organ donation and the impact donors have on the lives of so many patients and families. 

We are honoring the donors, the recipients and all the families who have been touched by organ donation. Whether you can walk, fun or cheer please join us!

Until 2017, 40% of Virginians in need of an organ transplant were seeking care outside the commonwealth. UVA’s leadership decided that improving access to care for those in need of a transplant became of utmost importance. With a great team effort, within two years, UVA doubled the number of organ transplants performed per year. The goal is to continue on this growth and quality path until all Virginians in need can get a successful transplant at UVA. Currently over 2400 Virginians are waiting for a lifesaving transplant and approximately 40% of Virginia adults have not registered to be an organ donor.

What's a "Virtual" event?
Participating is easy! Once registered, complete your event distance anytime/anywhere, the weekend of Friday April 23 - Monday April 26, 2021. Your distance can be completed while running, walking or both, using a course you choose, anywhere in the world. Your participation and result can be uploaded to our "Results" page manually OR by using the RaceJoy APP (more info below).

Entry Fee:  Virtual 4 Mile & 1 Mile "Transplant Trek"
Individual:  $25 (thru April 15th)
                    $30 (April 15th - April 26th)
Family Discount:  Save $3.00 / entry with a family of 4 or more

PACKET PICKUP "IN-PERSON"
We are planning two in-person packet pickup opportunities for local participants in Lynchburg and Charlottesville.

Thursday, April 22, 2021 - Lynchburg, Riverside Runners, 2480 Rivermont Avenue, Lynchburg, VA  24503, 3-6pm
Friday, April 23, 2021 - Homewood Suites, 2036 India Road, Charlottesville, VA  22901, 3-6pm (Back parking lot)

We are happy to mail packets to participants for an additional fee of $10.00.  This option is selected during registration and available until Monday April 12th.

BECOME AN INDIVIDUAL FUNDRAISER AND JOIN A FUNDRAISING TEAM
All registered participants have an opportunity to raise additional funds for the Charles O. Strickler Transplant Center at the University of Virginia. A complimentary, individual, fundraising website is created with each registration. Fundraising incentives are available for both individuals and teams.
