AMAZING NEWS

This year we are refreshing our event and relocating to Panorama Farms off Earlysiville Road at their championship course.

Panorama Farms is a privately owned farm of 850 acres located off Earlysville Road, approximately six miles from the Grounds of the University of Virginia. We will be using one of the two different 5K with a distinct starting line and finish line. The courses are laid out entirely on rolling grass fields that are maintained year-round. The courses are exceptionally spectator friendly.

The home of the Virginia cross country teams, Panorama Farms was the site of the 2006 and 2007 ACC Cross Country Championships and the 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019 NCAA Southeast Regional Championships.

This is going to be an AWESOME event for runners, walkers, hikers and children as well as spectators.  We are planning to include an exciting expo with a military vibe to inform and educate the general public as well as honoring and supporting our military's community.

Thank you for your support!!!

Beneficiaries

Blue Star Families of Central Virginia (BSFCV), founded in 2003, supports our local deployed service members by sending CARE packages containing letters and notes from local residents, food items, games, toiletries, specialized clothing, and many additional items. More than 6,200 CARE packages have been shipped since their founding in 2003, reaching an estimated 1,565 deployed service members. In November 2017, BSFCV initiated a program to add Military Working Dogs and their handlers as recipients of CARE packages.

Living Free Together provides our local active and inactive military families the opportunity and skills necessary to reflect on their service and deployment experiences, accept what is real, and help them plan for a thriving future together.  All of their programs are free of charge for all members of the family, and their support for military family members is not contingent upon the attendance of the veteran or service member. They encourage family mealtimes, team development, creative expression, mindfulness, and open communication through regular sessions that they organize and host. The offerings range from life coaching and personal growth to yoga training and beginning guitar.

Vietnam War and Foreign Conflicts Foundation’s mission statement is to honor the service of veterans, remember their sacrifices, preserve their history, and educate future generations.   They have created a museum that is a healing place for veterans and a place for the public to gain an understanding of their service.  They plan to expand the Vietnam War Museum to exhibits of subsequent conflicts, increase the hours of operation, increase the public visibility of the museum, and modernize the museum with media displays of veteran interviews and a venue for veterans to record their stories.

Wintergreen Adaptive Sports provides instruction in adaptive snow sports and paddling sports for persons with disabilities, of all ages and with all types of disabilities—physical, cognitive, and sensory. Primary programs include: Summer Adaptive Paddling Program; Winter Wounded Warriors Weekend (January-February); Summer Wounded Warriors Weekend (August); and “Every Day is Armed Services Day” program.  The 4OF5K event specifically provides financial support to their Wounded Warriors Weekend, next planned for January or February 2023. For this event they plan to host up to 20-25 warriors and an additional 45+ family members and caregivers.

Gratitude Cville has a Pet Project program which funds the free adoption of pets to local veterans.  Since the program’s inception, more than 50 pets have been adopted by local veterans without any cost to them or at a greatly reduced adoption fee. Veterans who adopt dogs also receive a free six-month supply of heart meds, and 12 weeks of flea/tick protection as a form of post-adoption support.  Gratitude Cville also has a Birthday Blankets for Vets Program where they provide a special Birthday Blanket to veterans who reside in one of six local nursing and assisted living homes.  They gift wrap a blanket with an attached personal note thanking that vet for their service to our nation. In 2021 this program reached more than 150 elderly veterans, many who are alone and have had minimal contact with family due to the COVID pandemic.

The West Point Society of Monticello runs the annual Seas the Day program, an outdoor event for veterans, active-duty military, Guard, and Reserve, and their families, at no cost to attendees. It includes a free catered lunch, and the event is held rain or shine.  The purpose of Seas the Day is for attendees to have a carefree, fun-filled day for the whole family and to become acquainted with over twenty veteran-related organizations that have information stations with knowledgeable staff members and volunteers. These charities and businesses are typically recreational, mental health, and veteran-assistance organizations. Seas the Day is also a day for the greater Charlottesville community to celebrate our veterans and their loved ones.  Over 200 people attended the last Seas the Day event in 2021.
