Events
Description
Join us for the ninth running of our annual Go Forth 5k and kids' run, this year in both in-person and virtual formats.
The in-person events are rescheduled! The in-person events will now take place on Saturday, October 29 at Deep Run Park: 8 a.m. for the kids' run and 8:30 for the Go Forth 5k walk/run. Virtual participants can join us anytime from Friday, October 30 to Monday, October 31.
Our proceeds will benefit the Built on Faith Campaign for Saint Mary's Catholic School. The Built on Faith Campaign supports the renovation of our school’s gym/parish hall, cafeteria and courtyard space.
"Go Forth" comes from the words we used to hear at the end of a Catholic mass: "Go forth to love and serve the Lord!" The Go Forth events are our way of starting off the school year with that direction in mind. In body and spirit, we'll celebrate our world, our community, and family fitness as a way to serve God and one another.
Optional Kids' Run and 5k Training Routes
Here are a few routes that you might choose from. For the 5k, I am trying to pick locations that have a good start/finish where you can park, and routes that have sidewalks and are not too far from Saint Mary's. These are sourced from MapMyRun or USA Track and Field, and may be +/- 3.1 miles (5k) but will be close. For the Kids' Fun Run, feel free to run in your neighborhood or in a park nearby. The kids' run is about having fun, and is either one or two loops around the lake at Deep Run Park. It is likely that your child won't need to train for it per se, although getting out to walk and/or run together is healthy and can be a fun thing to do as a family. You could check local middle and high school tracks that are near you to see if they are open to the public. Check back here for updated information, as I hope to list some open tracks as I confirm their availability.
Godwin and Deep Run High School tracks may be open if they aren't being used by students.
Benedictine Schools of Richmond's track is open after 5:45 p.m. on weekdays and as long as Saint Gertrude Gators or Benedictine Cadets aren't using it on weekends. St. Christopher's track is likewise open to the public as long as it's not in use by their students, so most weekdays after 6 p.m. and most anytime during weekends.
For the 5k, here are a couple routes not far from Saint Mary's:
