Description
Join Virginia's Governor Ralph Northam for The Governor's Race featuring the Governor's 5K (a run/walk) and the First Lady's Kids Run in downtown Richmond and along the James River. Read the Governor's new release. The 5K promises to be a challenging urban course featuring bridges, hills and views of the river and historic sites. All runners and all walkers are welcome. Participation in the 5K is capped at 500 registered runners and walkers.
The Governor's Race is organized in partnership with the Richmond Road Runners Club and its volunteers.
All profits from this race will be donated to the following nonprofit organizations: FeedMore to support the weekend BackPack program; Keep Virginia Beautiful; and the Friends of the James River Park.
First Lady's Kids Run
The 0.35-mile First Lady's Kids Run will be held on Bank Street beginning at 8:45 AM. Each child finishing the Kids Run will receive a finisher's medal.
The Kids Run is for children ages 3 - 10. It is FREE, but REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.
We ask that you bring a canned food item on RACE DAY for donation to FeedMore's Central Virginia Food Bank.

Course & Course Rules
The 5K (3.1 mile) course starts and finishes on Bank Street near the entrance to the Virginia State Capitol's Visitor Center (10th and Bank Streets). Runners will head east on Bank Street before turning onto 14th Street to cross the 14th Street Bridge. In Manchester, the course follows 7th Street to the footbridge and path leading to the T. Tyler Potterfield Memorial Bridge. After crossing the James River, the course follows Tredegar Street before finishing with a climb up 10th Street to the Visitor Center. The course is measured, but not certified.
The race is run on open streets monitored by course marshals and with traffic controlled by Richmond City Police. Follow their direction and watch for car/truck/bus/bike traffic.
This is a road race conducted under the rules of USATF and RRCA. In consideration of the safety of all participants, the following are not allowed on the course during the race: baby joggers, baby strollers, animals, skateboards, inline or roller skates, and bicycles. The use of personal music devices is strongly discouraged at this race. To enjoy all that our race has to offer and for the safety of all participants, RRRC encourages a headphone-free environment during the running of The Governor's Race.
Water Stop: There is one water station along the course. Water and snacks will be provided after the race.
Registration Fees & Rules
Runners must be 5 years of age or older to participate in the 5K race. Runners who are 5-9 years of age must be accompanied for the entire race by a parent, guardian or coach, who is registered for and running the race.

- All runners 5-12 years of age: $5 plus processing fee. Youth runners will not get a race cap, but may purchase a race cap for $7.50.

Any discounts will be applied at check out.
Refund Policy: All race registration fees, add-on purchase costs, and processing fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Registrations cannot be deferred to a later race. Bib numbers are not transferrable. In the event of postponements or cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, there will be no refunds.
Race Packet/Bib Number Pick Up
Race packet (bib number with timing chip and race cap) pick up will be Saturday, September 22, 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM at Road Runner Running Store, 3002 W Cary Street, Richmond, VA 23221.
Packet pick up on race day at the race location:
- 5K - 6:45-7:45 AM - Arrive in time to pick up your race bib before the 8:00 AM start of the race.
- Kids Run - 6:45-8:30 AM - Arrive in time to pick up your race bib before the 8:45 AM start of the Kids Run.
There will be on-site registration (payment by credit card only) at pre-race and race day packet pick up, if the races are not sold out.
Race Cap & Awards
Race Cap
A race cap (one size fits all) is guaranteed for the first 500 5K runners (age 13 and older) registered for the 5K or all 5K runners (age 13 and older) registered by September 7. We cannot guarantee the size, fit or style of cap. Runners who are not able to select a race cap during registration may be able to get an unclaimed cap after the conclusion of the race.
Awards
For the 5K, there will be awards for the top three male and top three female finishers overall and the top male and top female master finishers. The top three finishers in each 5-year age group (starting age group 5-14, ending age group 70+) will be recognized with ribbons.
The 5K race will be chip-timed by Richmond Road Runners Club. Results will posted on this website.
Parking
Parking can be found nearby at the following:
Meters -- A limited number of metered public parking spaces (2 hours) are located on the west side of 10th Street, between Main and Bank Streets; on Bank Street, between Governor and 14th Streets; on the south side of Main Street, between 9th and 12th Streets; and on 12th Street between Main and Bank Streets.
Lots and Decks -- Paid parking lots and garages are located nearby on 8th and Grace Street and 7th and Marshall Streets. Downloadable maps of nearby parking lots and decks are available.
RRRC Grand Prix Participants
The Governor's Race is not a RRRC Grand Prix race for 2018.
- There will be no participation points or place points assigned for this race.
- RRRC Grand Prix participants, who volunteer at the race, will receive credit for volunteering at a club race.
