Kon-Tiki Challenge

Sat May 21 - Sat August 20 Richmond, VA 23220 US

Events

Description

Dan Schmitt, a Sportable volunteer, is riding from Anacortes, Washington to Bar Harbor, Maine in a solo, unsupported bikepacking trip to fulfill a twenty-year dream to pursue an adventure inspired by a true story. Kon-Tiki is a book documenting the journey of six men who sailed 4,300 miles from Peru on a balsa log raft across the Pacific to the Polynesian islands to prove it could be done.

Dan’s journey riding coast to coast across America will be similar in time and distance to the original Kon-Tiki expedition. His ride begins on May 21 and will cover 4,500 miles along the Northern Tier arriving in Bar Harbor in approximately 100 days. As he treks across the country, Dan will be riding to raise awareness and funds to support Sportable’s mission to provide opportunities and access to sports for people with physical disabilities in Central Virginia.
