On December 3, 2019, Trey lost his life to an accidental overdose – an immeasurable loss to his family and everyone who loved him. Though he struggled with addiction, we know that his struggle with this disease will never define how he lived his live. Trey always went all-in when pursuing his passions. From a lifelong love for sports, including a prolific youth baseball career, to teaching himself how to play – and shred – the guitar like his hero, Slash, Trey lived his life to the fullest. We never imagined that Trey would become a victim of this horrible disease. While we struggle deeply with our loss, we were there for him and did everything we could to help. We are so proud of the maturity and wisdom he showed in seeking and accepting the help that he needed. Even through the hard times, he let us know every day how much he loved us, and we did the same.

Founded in 2004, The McShin Foundation is Virginia's leading non-profit, full-service Recovery Community Organization (RCO), committed to serving individuals and families in their fight against Substance Use Disorders. While providing the tools for recovering individuals to create positive lifestyles, we aim to spread the word of recovery and educate families, communities, and government regarding SUDs as well as reduce the stigma attached to them.
