Description

Cap2Cap presented by Dominion Energy is back for its 20th year and will take place on Friday, May 9th and Saturday, May 10th, 2025!

Cap2Cap is the annual bike ride fundraiser event for the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation.  It's a celebration of cycling and community on the Virginia Capital Trail (VCT)!  The ride features four distances: Century (100 miles), Half (50 miles), Quarter (25 miles), a 7-mile Family Fun Ride, as well as a 2-Day and Virtual option.

Start and finish whenever and wherever you like to ride along the Virginia Capital Trail.  Not sure where to start? Check out these suggested routes!
Enjoy the Party Zones at Chickahominy Riverfront Park on Friday or at Dorey Park on Saturday.  Riders will be supported by five Rest Stops over the 51.7-mile Trail and will receive Cap2Cap merchandise, lunch, a beverage ticket, coupons, and more!

Register to support the Trail you love and enjoy a day (or two!) celebrating by cycling such an incredible resource!
Walk-up registration is available at all Packet Pickup locations during the specified hours.
T-shirt sizes cannot be guaranteed after March 10th and sizes may be limited.

Please see the FAQs or view below for all event details.

Included with Registration

  • 20th Cap2Cap T-Shirt
  • Cap2Cap Water Bottle
  • Cap2Cap Drawstring Bag
  • Cap2Cap Event Bib
  • 10% discount code for the VCTF online store
  • More great perks TBA!

Party Zones

What's Cap2Cap without a Party?  And we've got two!  There's a different Party Zone location each day.

Redeem your lunch and beverage tickets (attached to your event bib) at the corresponding site on your selected Ride Day.  The Party Zone will also be the site for day-of Packet Pickup from 7:00 AM - 10:00 AM.  The rest of the day will be filled with music, vendors, and more!

The Party Zone could be your start and finish point (out-and-back style), your destination, or your midpoint pit stop.  Whenever you choose to stop by, please be responsible and do not drink and ride or drive.

Also - THE PARTY ZONES ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!  Anyone can come by to demo a bike, grab some food, have a beer, listen to music, check out the vendors, or cheer on your favorite cyclist!

Want a little more guidance on how to structure your ride to hit your distance goal and make the most of the Party Zone?  Check out these route guides from our friends at Road Tested Bike Tours.

Can't get enough Cap2Cap?  Want to check out both Party Zones?  See below for information on the 2-Day Challenge!

Please note, that registration for the Virtual option does not include participation in the in-person event, therefore, participants will not receive a bib, food or beverage ticket.

Rest Stops

We will have five Rest Stops located along the Virginia Capital Trail.  These will be equipped with water, snacks, and a great cheering section!  Rest Stops will be active between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

To limit crowding and keep our volunteers and riders safe, you will only be able to utilize Rest Stops on your selected Ride Day.

The Rest Stop locations are at:

  • Great Shiplock Park (Mile Marker 51.2)

  • Four Mile Creek (between Mile Marker 39 and 40)

  • Herring Creek (near Mile Marker 27)

  • Charles City County Courthouse (near Mile Marker 20)

  • Skalak Memorial right by Chickahominy Riverfront Park (between Mile Markers 6 and 7)

Shuttles for Half Century Riders

We are thrilled to be partnering with RVA Paddlesports to offer shuttles this year! This option is only for the Half Century (50 mile) riders and their bicycles!  The shuttle is available as an add-on in registration after you select the Half Century ride option and is $52.

Shuttle departures and arrivals are out of the Billsburg Brewery in Williamsburg and the Stone Brewing Williamsburg Avenue parking lot in Richmond.  You'll start your Cap2Cap with a shuttle ride to the other end of the Trail and then you'll ride your bike back to where you got on the shuttle.

FRIDAY 5/9

  • 6:30 AM:  Meet at Billsburg Brewery in Willamsburg (but park in the Jamestown Settlement lot)
  • 8:30 AM:  Meet at Stone Brewing Williamsburg Avenue parking lot in Richmond
  • 10:30 AM:  Meet at Billsburg Brewery in Willamsburg (but park in the Jamestown Settlement lot)

SATURDAY 5/10

  • 6:30 AM:  Meet at Stone Brewing Williamsburg Avenue parking lot in Richmond
  • 8:30 AM:  Meet at Billsburg Brewery in Willamsburg (but park in the Jamestown Settlement lot)
  • 10:30 AM:  Meet at Stone Brewing Williamsburg Avenue parking lot in Richmond

The shuttle will promptly depart 30 minutes after the meeting time.

***You can only take a shuttle that's on your selected Ride Day.***

***Shuttle signups end on Tuesday, 5/6 at 11:59 PM.  There will be no in-person signups.***

Please note, that limited spaces are available.  There is also a minimum of registrants needed to run the shuttles.  If the minimum isn't met, the service will be canceled and the fee refunded.  This is the only reason a refund would be applicable.  Otherwise, the shuttle will run rain or shine.

Additionally, due to the enclosed trailers' capacity and in an effort to keep all bicycles safe and secure, the shuttles can only accommodate two-wheeled, non-reclining, single-rider, seated bicycles weighing under 60 lbs.

2-Day Challenge

Want to ride on both Friday and Saturday?  Great idea!

The 2-Day Challenge allows riders to select a distance goal for each day and provides access to Rest Stops, course support, and the Party Zones with lunch and beverage tickets for both days!  Take it easy on Friday to warm up for a big day two?  Load the miles up front and have a relaxed Saturday spin?  Bikepacking overnighter at Chickahominy Riverfront Park?  Double Century?!  The choice is yours!

Please note: The 2-Day Challenge riders will receive a single packet (one t-shirt, one water bottle, one drawstring bag, one bib that has tickets for both days, etc.).

Virtual Cap2Cap

To make sure Cap2Cap is accessible to as many riders as possible, there will again be a virtual option available for 2025.  Virtual riders will select a distance goal during registration and will be able to ride and submit their results between May 1st and May 31st.  While we recommend planning your ride on the Virginia Capital Trail, it is not required.

Virtual participants will receive the official Cap2Cap t-shirt, drawstring bag, and water bottle in early June in the mail, along with any store purchases made in association with registration (registration includes the cost of shipping).  Virtual participants will not have a bib, food, or beverage tickets, or participate in the in-person event.

To submit your results, log in to your RunSignup account.  Then, click on your profile picture in the upper right hand corner and select "Profile".  Scroll down that page until you find the Cap2Cap event.  On the right-hand side, click "Submit Virtual Results".
