Description

Come join us for an energizing morning, with fun for the whole family! The Greensprings Miles for Smiles Race includes an 8K Run/Walk. The Greensprings Miles for Smiles Race is hosted by Dr. James A. Burden & Associates to benefit Olde Towne Medical and Dental Center in Williamsburg, Virginia. We are also proud to feature a 1 Mile Fun Run.

Learn More About Olde Towne Medical and Dental Center:  Founded in 1993, Olde Towne Medical & Dental Center provides primary medical and dental care to uninsured and underinsured children and adults living and working in the greater Williamsburg area.  A safety-net community health center, Olde Towne is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.  In addition, they offer prenatal care (the only prenatal clinic west of Newport News and east of Richmond) HIV/AIDS management, and access to medical specialties including cardiology, pulmonology, pediatrics, ophthalmology, gynecology, family practice/sports medicine, psychiatry and nephrology.

Olde Towne Medical & Dental Center treats 5,000 patients annually with 15,800 patient visits.  During the last three years the number of uninsured and uninsured patients has risen from 78% to 80%.  Forty percent of our patient base is at or below the federal poverty level and 60% below 200%.  Ninety percent of our patients are in the workforce holding one or more jobs.

The Access Medication Program (AMP), which helps provide free generic medications, 600 per month, to low-income or uninsured patients.  This program complements our Medication Access Program (MAP) which provides free prescription drugs to our patients who cannot afford them.  Last year we filled 3,900 prescriptions with a dollar value of close to $9.4 million.

Learn More About the Greensprings 8K Run – Starting and finishing at Jamestown High School, the 8K run/walk is a very scenic, very fast, and almost totally flat course combining the Greensprings Trail, the Powhatan Creek Trail and the Capital Trail, three of the finest recreational trails in Williamsburg. Starting at the far end of the JHS parking lot, at the intersection with the concrete sidewalk that connects to the JHS track, the course goes right briefly on Eagle Way, a right thru the Greensprings Trailhead parking lot sidewalk, to a left at the Greensprings Trail entrance. One mile into the race, take a right onto the Powhatan Creek trail for a third of a mile. Then right on the Capital Trail for just over a mile to a right on the bike path paralleling Route 5 that connects to Eagle Way and JHS. From that bikepath take a right to get back onto the Greensprings Trail, taking a right over the scenic Swamp Bridge to the intersection with the Capital Trail for a brief distance, again returning to the Greensprings Trail for the final 1 3/4 miles of the race, retracing the course to a left on Eagle Way, a left into the JHS parking lot, and a left onto the concrete sidewalk, finishing on the JHS track. Most of the 4.97-mile race will be on the easy-to-run crushed gravel of the wide Greensprings Trail (2 ¾ miles), while the remainder will be on asphalt paths or roads (2 ¼ miles).
