Race Day Instructions

This year marks the 12th anniversary of the Wisconsin Trail Assail Series and you'll love coming out to Lapham Peak for this family friendly and all abilities run/walk. Let's be honest -- everyone once in their life wants to run from the tax man! We encourage you do do it at Run From The Tax Man - figuratively that is.

Lapham Peak is one of the more challenging course in the Wisconsin Trail Assail Series. Not as hard as writing that check every April 15th, but close. It is hilly and technical. By technical, we mean there are logs across the path, rocky areas, sandy areas, dirt, tree roots, washouts and hills. It is a spectacular course and we guarantee you will love it! While challenging, its still very doable for new trail runners and walkers.

NEW FOR 2024!

A medal...made of wood...aka a Woodle! All finishers in all distances will receive a Woodle!

Woodles from Ridgeway Woodworks have the added benefit of being made from reclaimed wood, meaning, these awards not only look great, but they cut down on waste! Each Woodle includes a magnet on the back. Custom racks are available for purchase from Ridgeway. If purchased prior to April 1st, they will be delivered at the first race. Don't forget to check out the magnetic time cards.

Place

Lapham Peak State Park

Race shirts are gender specific, dry wick and those registered noon March 29 are guaranteed a custom race shirt.  After that, shirts be available while on line supplies last.

Everything you ever wanted to know about shirts can be found right here.  The FEMALE shirts run small!

Run/Walk Courses

5K course map | 10K/half course map | Park map

The course distances will not be exact since it is trail running, and, as nice as the park people are, they won't let us cut down trees to make new paths.

The course is well marked with 12X12 turn arrows, 3' tall course signs, and orange SCSE cones. It does not use the traditional trail tape or markings.

Walkers are welcome to participate in any distance! When registering, select the distance in which you would like to participate. Please check the course closure time to ensure you can finish the distance you choose before the course closes.

Although the Walk division is a timed event, it is not a competitive event. There are no age group awards for the Walk division. Walkers will still receive a finisher woodle!

This is a Cupless race!

The Wisconsin Trail Assail Series is a cupless series!

The idea of throwing 100,000+ cups in a landfill each year doesn’t seem in line with what most runners support. This has been in the works for 2+ years, but covid interrupted its implementation. Now is the time to do it!

Don’t worry, we’re NOT doing away with aid stations. There will still be aid stations with water and sports drinks at events, just no cups! You will need to bring a reusable cup with you. We are also expanding the areas for a bag drop where you can leave a nutrition/hydration bag.

The Tower!

We will not be running up the tower because of safety reasons. If you would like to climb the tower (and you should), you can do so before or after the event.
