Description

Fox River Park is full of mature woodlands, wetlands, and many species of wild flowers. You’ll feel like you’re in the northern woods of Wisconsin without leaving Waukesha County. When using a GPS for directions, use the address and not the park name. Many GPS units will take you to another park!

NEW FOR 2024!

A medal...made of wood...aka a Woodle! Finisher woodles for ALL distances!

Woodles from Ridgeway Woodworks have the added benefit of being made from reclaimed wood, meaning, these awards not only look great, but they cut down on waste! Each Woodle includes a magnet on the back. Custom racks are available for purchase from Ridgeway.

Place

FOX RIVER PARK
W264 S4500 River Road
Waukesha, WI US 53189

T-Shirts

The shirts are gender specific, dry wick and those registered noon June 14th are guaranteed a custom race shirt.  After that, shirts be available while on line supplies last.

Everything you ever wanted to know about shirts can be found right here.  The FEMALE shirts run small!

Run/Walk Courses

The 5K / 10K course runs through the forest canopy with a surprising number of elevations changes. The 10K is two laps on the 5K course. You should not cross the finish line until you have completed two laps.

The half marathon is 1 loop inside the park on the 5K course + 1 out and back on the Fox River Trail (paved) = 1 lap. You will do this twice.

If you have run this event in the past, it is different this year. We will be starting in picnic area 3. AKA where all the parking is.

There is also construction in the park and a portion of the paved trail is closed west of the park entrance.

About Fox River Park

CAUTION - if you are using a GPS to find the park, please make sure you enter Fox River Park, and it is on River Road. Otherwise, you will end up on Fox River Parkway in the middle of a subdivision!

The course distances will not be exact since it is trail running, and, as nice as the park people are, they won't let us cut down trees to make new paths.

The course is well marked with 12X12 turn arrows, 3' tall course signs, and orange SCSE cones. It does not use the traditional trail tape or markings.

Walkers are welcome to participate in any distance! When registering, select the distance in which you would like to participate. Please check the course closure time to ensure you can finish the distance you choose before the course closes.

Although the Walk division is a timed event, it is not a competitive event. There are no age group awards for the Walk division. Walkers will still receive a finisher woodle!

Early Start & Course Closures

As much as we’d love to spend days/nights/weekends at our favorite race sites, our permits only allow us to be on site for a limited amount of time. We are required to close the course to stay within those limits and, unfortunately, participants will not be permitted to continue once the course is closed for the final lap. The course will close for the final lap 9:30am.

If you are concerned about being able to finish the half marathon in the allotted time, we want to help you achieve your running goals, so we offer an early start for those who need a little more time. Early start half marathoners will receive a chip time, but are not eligible for age group awards or series awards. The course may not be marked, course marshals & police may not be on course, aid stations may not be set, and the course is open to the public. The early start is ONLY for half marathons.

Those that are not participating in the half marathon and start early will not receive an official time and will be disqualified. Additionally, participants who continue after being asked to stop will be disqualified.

Day of Registration
We strongly encourage you to register prior to race day -- it can be done in a few minutes using your phone. If you decide to register race day, you will be required to do so electronically -- sorry, we do not offer paper registration.

Parking
Parking is available at the parks. There is a $7.00 county park day pass or an annual pass required. Both the annual pass and daily pass must be purchased online BEFORE the event.  There is NO in person payment available.

Aid Stations & Bag Drop

There is one aid station on course that runners will pass two times on each lap. The aid station will have water, sports drink and energy gels.

There will be an on-course bag drop area for you to leave your nutrition and hydration items. It is located on the paved path between the park entrance and the boat launch. Please place your bag in the designated bag drop area before the race. Both sides of the path can be used, but please place them on the grass and not the path. This is a self-placement and self-serve bag drop.

Volunteers

We need volunteers for everything from aid station support to course marshals. If you or your group have an interest in volunteering, we would greatly appreciate the assistance. All volunteers can run a future race at no charge. Register to volunteer by clicking on the volunteer link in the menu above. For more information on volunteering click here.

This is a Cupless race!

The Wisconsin Trail Assail Series is a cupless series!

The idea of throwing 100,000+ cups in a landfill each year doesn’t seem in line with what most runners support. This has been in the works for 2+ years, but covid interrupted its implementation. Now is the time to do it!

Don’t worry, we’re NOT doing away with aid stations. There will still be aid stations with water and sports drinks at events, just no cups! You will need to bring a reusable cup with you. We are also expanding the areas for a bag drop where you can leave a nutrition/hydration bag.
