Our Mission and Growth

Originally founded in February 2011 as The James and Derek Hotsinpiller Memorial Scholarship Fund, our mission began with a simple goal: to provide educational funding to graduating students and law enforcement officers pursuing careers in criminal justice.

Thanks to our incredible community and event supporters, we have proudly awarded 76 scholarships to West Virginia students and 10 scholarships to West Virginia law enforcement officers, distributing more than $215,250 in scholarship funds to date.

In February 2023, we expanded into The James and Derek Hotsinpiller Foundation, Inc. to broaden our reach and deepen our impact. Today, we continue to:

• 🎓 Fund scholarships for students and officers advancing their education.

• 🛡️ Improve officer safety through equipment, K-9 support, and wellness initiatives.

• ❤️ Support officers and families facing unexpected hardships — including injuries, disasters, or the loss of a loved one in the line of duty.

The Impact of Your Support — 2025 Highlights

Thanks to our generous sponsors, race participants, and donors, this year we:

✅ Awarded 4 new scholarships to high school seniors pursuing careers in criminal justice.
✅ Presented 16 K-9 drug-detection kits to handlers across West Virginia — our largest single equipment donation to date in support of K-9 teams.
✅ Provided direct assistance to law enforcement officers and families in West Virginia, Florida, New Jersey, Virginia, and North Carolina.
✅ Delivered meals to 16 police departments as part of our ongoing officer-outreach initiative.

We Have Big Goals for 2026

We plan to continue our scholarship program, expand officer-wellness and equipment initiatives, and extend our support to even more communities. With your help, we’ll do even more for the officers and families who serve and protect us every day.
