Description

What is ALS?

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. A-myo-trophic comes from the Greek language. "A" means no. "Myo" refers to muscle, and "Trophic" means nourishment – "No muscle nourishment." When a muscle has no nourishment, it "atrophies" or wastes away. "Lateral" identifies the areas in a person's spinal cord where portions of the nerve cells that signal and control the muscles are located. As this area degenerates, it leads to scarring or hardening ("sclerosis") in the region.

This past year our church has witnessed the affects of ALS on one of our dearest loved families.  In our effort to help bring more awareness, we are hosting our 1st Annual 5K ALS Trail Run at the church property.  All proceeds will be donated to WV ALS in hopes to help support other families in need.

  • Registration will open at 8:00am
  • Medals will be awarded for the top 3 finishers in age groups.
